I've had issues with the APH-1n in my Les Paul Standard being much noisier than all of my other pickups for quite a while now. This isn't serious, so I've never really paid much attention to it, but I was thinking maybe you guys could shed a little light on the subject...
I'm wondering if there's some sort of grounding problem with the pickup because on the lead channel of my 2555 it's almost as noisy as a P-90. I'm also thinking that this may simply be a line noise issue as I've tried to duplicate the problem elsewhere, and it doesn't seem to happen. I guess I'm just looking for possible solutions as this does keep me from playing my LP as much as I'd like to.
If the noise is quot;almost as loud as a P-90quot; then I suspect that there is a problem with your guitar wiring or that the pickup is defective. If the bridge pickup doesn't share the noise problem then I would scratch off several possibilities from the list of causes: cable, amp, noisy RF environment.
Does the noise get louder or softer if you touch the pole pieces with a small screwdriver? There should not be much of an effect if the pickup is grounded properly...
It's said that A2 magnets are noisier than A5 and Ceramic but as noisy as a P90 sounds wired to me!
