And it actually sounds good! The only song I can hear it on so far on Wintersun's new album is 'Beautiful Death.' Download it or something, and listen to the twang that the rythm has. He recorded most of the album with a stock Tokai tele, and I didn't beleive it at first. It actually sounds good, it's super clear and defined, and the lead tones aren't half bad, either.
It's funny you should mention this. I was considering getting a Tele shaped stealth metal guitar just this past Tuesday ... but, that might've been the Guinness talking.
Yeah Wintersun rule!Same for Ensiferum which was Jari Mäenpää's first band. His tele sound makes me gas for a nice tele badly. Any ideas what pups would fit and which woods would be best?

For metal, I would say Joe Barden if you want to keep the original look.
John 5,
Tho for the heavy stuff on the album he probobly didnt use it stock, mabye some rails or something as the pic on the album cover shows his tele with some sort of rails..
Check out quot;Streets Cry Freedomquot; from the first Badlands album (Jake E. Lee)...when the song picks up the pace and the heavy chugga chugga chinka chugga chugga riff comes in...stock Vintage Tele.
I picked up a toothpaste Charvel Tele copy (pointy headstock and all) in 1989 or 1990 because of that Riff. With my Marshall 800 or my Laney and a TS, I could get some seriously good heavily distorted tones out of it, and it would def cut through the mix on leads.
According to Vinterland..... the album was recorded probably 50% of it Jackson with EMG 81/85 the other half with that Tele. He got his answer via email from Jari Hisself!!!
Wintersun do kick major ass! I have been spinning it for awhile.
Do yourselves a favor and check them out good talent there.
hetfield used a tele with bardens to record unforgiven II
Poison the Well uses Teles, but I think they but a lil' 'bucker in the bridge.
