I'm going to change my stock epi pups, these things just dont have much life in them. I play through a fender cybertwin se. I'm thinking of trying out a set of AII Pros or a set of PG's. Which of these two would be better to get a good Mick Ralphs/ Paul Kossoff tone? I have Seths in my LP Classic and love them but didnt want to invest that kind of money into my Epi.
To be honest, either set or mix and match a PG bridge with an A2P neck.
I love the PG set in my Lester, but the APH set might be friendlier to your ears.
I think the Alnico II's would get you where you need to go, plus if your on a budget they cost less than the PG's.
i went with the A2 pro set in the end..as someone said early...it's got to fit your ear and those work really well for me.
Haven't tried the PGs but I have a set of AII Pros in my '96 LP Std and they sound great. Mick Ralphs and Paul Kossoff are just the kind of tones they will pull off. Excellent classic bluesy rock. They are not a million miles from the Seths - a little brighter on the top end, a little less honk, slightly tighter bass. The output is very similar.
Great A2P description Simon! I'd say the PG's are a notch up from that - more highs, and an upper mid snarl (in a good way, to me at least) Sounds like you need the A2P's. But PG's might be fine if want a little more kick -but not much more.
Do you guys think I should upgrade the rest of the electronics while I'm at it?

A set of AII Pros with those pots and caps will be superb!
Where would be a good place online to get pots and caps? I've never bought/installed new ones
I don't know about online, but Dimarzio pots are just repackaged CTS units. I get mine locally.
I just replaced a AP2 with a PG in the neck of a 335 and to me it sounds like a good T-Top I used to have in a '64 335...a little snarly, biut only when you want it. Using a AP2 in the neck and it's a good mix for that guitar (a '90 natural dot RI, on the bright side).

Sorry for the shameless plug but we can set you up with matched sets of 500K CTS pots.
https://Orange Drops.
Love the PG neck but, Hate the bridge! I just find the bridge very bright and trashy sounding to my ears. IMO opinion, its a love it or hate it pickup! I however like the APH's alot! They have my vote!
