I just installed a Steve's Special and Air Norton. I thought I had it right because when I tap the pole pieces I get EQUALLY STRONG sounds on the coils that should be sounding depending on the position of the switch. However...
Positions 2 and 4 sound VERY weak. What could be the problem here?
I'm having doubts with my wiring now because of this so I don't think it's right to make an assesment of these pickups. It might be unfair. Damn!
I described what I did with the installation in the my other post... here: from : localhost//forum/s...t=44252amp;page=3
Did you wire it according to a DiMarzio schematic? They use a different color coding system than Duncan.
Yes, I did the JEM555 wiring here
sounds like you are having some phase issues

absolutely correct, they pup are out of phase for sure
some really like this tone but i prefer the in phase notch tones
If 2 and 4 are both out of phase, just switch the hot and ground wires for the middle pickup. It's a quick easy fix.

That's probably it -- you may have accidentally reversed the hot and ground wires on the middle pickup. If you notice you are getting more noise than before with the middle pu, then this is definitely the case.
Somebody suggested that I interchange the RED and GREEN wires. Looks like switching the middle pickup wires is easier as I have to only work on 1 pickup and 2 wires. The middle pickup is stock btw.
Is the sound/tone I'm getting now for position 1 and 5 the quot;correctquot; tone? Or are my humbucking quot;modesquot; affected as well?
Thanks!

wire the dimarzios as described by dimarzio
(red=hot,green and bare=ground, black and white=twisted together)
then reverse the wires on the stock single
