I have had a few days to really mess with the MXR EVH Phase 90 and it is a great pedal. I was very worried that since it isn't a true bypass I would not like it much. I am super picky when it comes to this and am very impressed. I can hear NO difference in my tone when the pedal is off. I cranked my VHT yesterday listening for the slightest difference and it just wasn't there.
When the pedal is ON it is just great. In the Script Mode (meaning the old script style Phase 90 from early VH stuff) it perfectly duplicates the EVH brown sound. If you speed it up you can get some wild sounding stuff.
In the Block Mode (more modern block writing Phase 90s) it changes the tone a little. Honestly, I have spent 95% of my time using the pedal in the other mode so I haven't really evaluated this too much yet.
I got this sucker for $119 at GC. Just tell them you saw it for $119 somewhere else and they'll knock $10 off- it normally sells for $129 and lists for like $226.00
Huge thumbs up here!
told ya so man...i LOVE mine...for the longest time all i was using was a boss tu-2 floor tuner and my evh phase 90...i love that pedal.
yours is set a hair shy of where i use mine...i tend to point it right at the little white button and it sounds great in either mode!!

I owe you one Mike. Your feedback was one of the reasons I went out and bought it! I am really diggin' it!! Best phaser I have ever tried. My G-Force has a great Phaser also but this beats it hands down.
Post some sound clips!
no problem i'm glad you like it as much as i do. it may be pricey for a phaser to some but it looks sweet, has 2 sound modes, a killer blue led (that thing is bright as hell!!)...oh yeah and it sounds damn good too hahaha. just be careful with it b/c it gets addictive and you keep trying to fit it into songs lol.

Go to tips and clips and listen to my cover of Runnin' with the Devil Mephis...
Doesn't really do it justice b/c I was using a POD XT and not a tube amp.
Got one in my rig as well. I love this pedal! I was a bit skeptical if would produce the quot;brown soundquot; tones I was after, especially for the early VH songs, but I was surprised. Its a keeper!

on that topic...is there any way you can send me the patch you used for the distorted/heavier tones in runnin'? i have no good vh patches. thanks.

Oh man...I NEED to finish paying off my RR-1 so I can get a pedalboard goin. This will be one of the first purchases, aside from an OD.

That was the stock quot;Eruptionquot; patch... I just turned off the Phaser and used my MXR. I added a little reverb on the entire mix and then hit it again with a BBE sonic maximizer. I was going straight from the POD XT into my computer. There is a guitar on each side of the mix. I'd be happy to send that patch if you don't have it. I have a few other good heavy settings if you are interested.
soooooo, anyone know how this EVH compares tro the regualr orange Phase 90?
huh...go figure...i never tried recording with the stock eruption patch lol...i tried it quot;livequot; through my atomic and thought it was ok but not quite right but never direct into the comp...heck i guess i was wrong b/c that sounded damn good. i'll go tinker with it now. thanks for the tip. also, that would be great if you can send over any heavy patches you have...i'm a high gain freak and can't get enough differnt sounds lol. xssive337@aol.com thanks again.

I am kinda a POD idiot so I have no idea how I'd e-mail them.... explain it and I'll try. I have a killer Lynch-like patch I use on a lot of stuff, a really nice Uberschall patch too.
