Yup, finally got my mexi-strat (tacocaster) back from the shop. I'm just going to sum it up.... this strat was NEVER set-up after the origional purchase, and the guy ho had it before me wasn't experienced and put on thicker strings which pulled up the bridge and pulled the neck up.
Anyway, I've had in guitars for a set-up before, BUT this set-up did SOOO much. Honestly it's like he put a new neck on and put new pups in (and I checked...and he didn't )
I got 10-52's put on which are sweet and have nice bottom end (52 is ungodly thick )
He adjusted the bannana shape neck so now it plays smoother than ever, lowered the bridge to a good height, but still floating..and raised the pickups, WOW this made the biggest difference. I tinkered with the height a bit but he brought them up higher and now they sound AMAZING. Before they were good, but lacked a little brightness, now... BOOM nice and bright but not overbearing.
My neck pup (all s-c so far mind you) sounds full and fat, less SRV'y then before, but I like the sound..alot! Really screams even for a neck pup. And the bridge pickup....mmm.. it SCREAMS. And that in cunjunction with the 10-52's (in standard tuning all the way) make the heaviest sounding S-C strat I've heard. It sound meaner and screams more then my humbuckered Squier.
I am so happy with what he's done....now if I just can get my SD Custom in there.....
I have fell in love with this guitar for the second time.... it almost makes me not want to put a humbucker in there!!
Sometimes a good setup is all it takes to go from crap guitar to great guitar. Glad to see it worked out for you.
What gauge of strings did you have in there before?
I dont knwo what they were.. they were stock 9-42.. but I think the dude put a hybrid set on before he sold it (I got it used). Now that I look back, it pretty much was a piece of **** before this
