Anyone know if Epiphone LP bridge specs are the same as Gibson's? I was thinking of replacing the tunomatic and tail piece on my Epi LP Custom and wanted to make sure a replacement part speced for a Gibson would fit. Also, is there any advantage/disadvantage to having notched or un-notched bridge saddles?
Thanks.
They are not the same....The Epis are different. Found that out when looking at TonePros offerings for my Epi.
As for the saddles, I'll defer to someone who knows more than I do, but If ya know how/have the tools to cut them yourself , I suspect that's the way to go...

God that's annoying. Why don't they just follow the Gibson specs? Does Gibson want people who buy their Epiphones to be frustrated at every turn or what? Sorry that I don't have $2,000 to drop on a guitar right now.
Anyway, sorry for my babbling.
So, did you end up finding a replacement of some sort that fit?

I actually ended up selling the guitar. However, TonePros does make a replacement for them..they spec it as quot;metric sizequot; or something like that. I would email them and they can give ya the exact one to order.
Up until a few years ago, Epi had their own line of packaged replacement parts. I bought some at the local Mars Music (remeber them?) for Les knock- off I was fixing. I later put a tailpiece from Stew- Mac on that also fit. Check out parts that are Metric sized, they should fit.

Yep, TonePro's Metric is what ya need. I don't have any metric versions in stock, but can order them up if you like....

Definitely don't notch them. The Shop i work with went through a spate of people complaining about string breakage on Les Paul's and SGs. We replace several Tunomatics and didn't notch any of them; they sounded cleaner and didn't pinch the string. String breakage went away. make sure that the tailpiece is down far enough for the string to just miss rubbing on the bridge frame where it dips down behind the saddles. If you must have them notched because, for example, you need a wider string spacing, make sure the notch is a rounded depression that just cradles the string, not a rough notch as done by Gibson.

Gibson's are made in the US, they use the US Standard sytem of measurement. Epis are made overseas, and the rest of the world uses metric. There are only a couple of companies in Asia that make all the imports. I think Samick makes most of them, at least they used to.

Yes, the LP's are made in the China factory too. I own one. They started making the LP's there in 2002-2003 time frame. Some still come from Korea but majority are out of China now.
This is my 2004 Epi LP Standard Plus.
Chinese Epi's have serial numbers beginning with BW, DW or DC.
Stew Mac sells some parts in metric that will fit your Epi...
I've ordered bridges, saddles, and tailpieces that fir with no problem... They even sell a part that will allow you to put a metric bridge on the standard posts (or vice versa). They even sells some TonePros stuff.
Check 'em out...
