This will probably be a bonehead question.
Aren't 59's generally considered an LP-style pup?
If so, does having them in my Predator give it any semblance of an LP sound?
Or is it, just a completely different beast?
Thanks; Artie
I'm gonna get flamed for this, but to my ears, a lot of the Gibson tone is the pickups. The 496R/500T set made my basswood, bolt-on, Floyd ESP sound VERY much like a Gibson, especially the 496R.
I think that they're considered 'Gibson' type pickups because they're humbuckers, which IIRC, were made for Gibson by Seth Lover. In any case, they're designed after PAF's, so you'd get the 'Gibson' sound in that sense.
I think the true LP sound is a combination of humbuckers, a thick mohogany body with TOM and stop tail piece, the maple cap (if applicable), the mohogany set neck, and the 24.75quot; scale.
