stacked, virtual vintage, noiseless whatever you want to call them.
I played a fender american deluxe strat the other day. Those Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups sound quite good. Good enough to satisfy most average to mid lever single coil freaks. But fender doesn't sell them separately. So what should I choose to get to the SCN level tone?

well, bill lawrence designed them for fender ... does he have anything for sale that's close?

i have been thrilled with my duckbucker's tone (but recommend the Vintage Rails) .. and my vintage stack for tele set is really very nice for capturing a traditional tele tone without hum

hope this helps

The new Duncan Noiseless Stack Stratocaster pickups are my favorites. They have not been released yet and even the name is not yet finalized. I didn't like any of the DiMarzio Stacked pickups. The Fender Noiseless pickups are pretty nice.

But I think the new Duncans are going to beat them all when they eventually hit the market.

They are especially nice for live performance IMO. A little hotter than vintage. They have a little of the compressed tone that all Stacked or Noiseless or Humbucking pickups have, but less than any others I've used, and generally they are very open and vintage sounding.

I compared them to my Antiquitys and thought the new Duncan Noiseless compared very favorably.

I was extremely impressed with the prototypes I was given to try.

I do not know. I do know that the Kinman's are very highly regarded. Never tried them. Lew

Hey Lew, can you remember the specs on the bridge pickup?? And the others for that matter.

Thanks

There's usually some Kinman threads here: from : localhost/said, the best stacked single coil is the BG1400.

No. There were no specs provided to me. I loaned them to Gearjoneser and then I believe Startdeluxer97 was going to take them for a spin and after those guys have sent Evan thier reviews, they're coming home to me again: once and for all.

I love Bill Lawrence L-280's but, I would like to get my hands on the set that Lew has when they come out though.

Since they are designed by Bill Lawrence, I would try a set of Bill Lawrence L-280's.

I've tried pretty much everything out there. Only Kinman nails the chime of a strat pickup in a stacked design.

At least at this time.

I always thought Chris Kinman was full of himself until I bought a couple and now ...

... he can be full of whatever he wants because his PUs are simply the best I've ever tried.

I won't be buying anything else from now on. Seriously, his PUs are addicting and the attention to quality is all over his products.

Can't wait to try his P-90'ish Hx-85.

Lew, have you heard from the guys and their opinions on them?? If so, can you at least give a hint at how they like them so far??

Thanks

they sound great, but I don't want to spill the beans, since there are others still testing them

I have a set as well and they are everything Lew says they are. I and a couple of Guitar playing friends were very impressed by the new Stacks.

How do they compare to Kinman's PUs? ... I know you Duncan guys don't like to compare with others but Kinman placed the bar to beat.

Never tried the Kinmans but I've heard good things often enough to believe they are solid.

Take a look below at my signature, the pickup set I have in my Strat is what I believe to be the three best noiseless single coils in existence...although I've heard that the new prototype Duncan models are excellent as well.

Ryan

thanks for the info, guys
how is stacked single coils compared to mini humbuckers(especially duncans)?
I have used both only briefly and want to know what you guys think. I am looking for a smooth, open tone without the hum. From what I know about PU design, regular humbuckers are quot;dullquot; because they sense string vibration at two points. so you can either put them closer or stack them together. Am I comparing apples to oranges?

Yes. Both decrease hum, but the sound is different. Mini buckers still sound more or less like buckers because they still sense 2 points. Stacks are closer to the single coil sound.
