I came across an old George Lynch article in which he explained how he was in the process of making a Guitar with a motor that drove the Pick-up from the Neck to the Bridge with the flick of the switch. I've looked everywhere for something about this but have only the original Article in which he explained the idea. He called the Guitar Mr. Practicle! Has anyone any information on this or ever seen it completed? I'd like to check it out. ! (The Article was from May 1990)

there were old Gibson basses that had a thing like that, cept i think the pickup just moved back and forth by the persons effort, not a motor.......i think they may have been called Grabber Basses?

Why? I don't understand! It just seems like crazy eccentricity. I understand that if you put the pickup in a different place it's gonna sound different.

I thought Spinal Tap solved this problem with their 7 pickup guitar, lol.

That sounds like one of the LEAST practical ideas ever!

I imagine that moving a pickup with an electric motor would sound like crap when its plugged in.

What actual use would this have?

Has anyone ever tried using an electrical motor (like a dremel) in front of a pickup? It can be pretty cool for the odd 3 seconds..
