I noticed when I take my guitar out of my case the tuning is off the flat side by like 10% most of time. Should I be cracking the case and let my guitar warm up to the current room temp, even though the case sits in my room all the time? I know guitars strings warm up after playing a bit so that affects tuning too. Maybe I didn't do enough stretching when I put on the strings, should I try it again enough I changed about two weeks ago? When I changed the strings I put 3 in 1 oil on all the string contact points, so I think that would be okay with no string snags. Could it be the fact that on all the strings I only got 1-3 full turns around the tuning pegs, covering over the part I cut off? What do you think the problem is or what should I be doing?
tbh I wouldn't consider that much of a problem, just tune up before you play - the more you do it the more your ear will develop in pitch recognition
I disagree... your guitar should not be going out of tune every time you put it in the case. Everytime you put new strings on stretch them nice and good and keep tuning up until they stay in tune. When you change tunings do the same. Make sure your winds around the tuning peg are tight, and there's nothing wrong with your bridge.
Yes Definitely strech the strings really well another thing to consider is your area's climate. If you just got your guitar from somewhere like Alaska and had it shipped to Georgia it would take some time for the guitar to get used to the climate of your area. My friend used to have the worst intonation and tuning problems with a few Hamers he had, after a few weeks everything settled down though, he had the guitars shipped from Middle America down into humid as it gets Georgia.
if the tuners are resting on the lining on the case, im sure youd go out of tune just from the tuners being moved as your putting the guitar away/taking it out
Guitars go out of tune for a variety of reasons, temperatures, humidity, playing, tuners turning when put into the case. You shouldn't expect it to stay in tune all the time. It's the nature of the beast. When we do outdoor gigs, it's a constant battle to keep in tune.
Some people don't care if they are a little out of tune- just listen to any Grateful Dead album!

HAHAHAHA
I used to have trouble with my old strats string trees, so I switched them out for roller string trees and never went out of tune again.
Do you guys think it could because I'm not letting the guitar warm up the air temp, because all the tuning is off equally on most strings? Guess I'll try the stretching the strings again could be the problem or the case maybe.
One more thing, I still need to practice more on the amount of slack before bending my string at sharp angle. I follow the stringing method shown here from : localhost/ I really don't have any clue how much slack I need for the correct amount of turns around the tuning posts. Could you guys tell me how much slack I need in like fingers on any fret as reference? Cause I'm thinking the problem could be the lack of turns around the posts.
It's probably NOT the number of turns around the post.
This is an interesting article about stringing a guitar. It might help.
I ALWAYS take my guitar out and let it sit on the stand for a few minutes before I tune it. Temperature changes WILL affect your tuning. Some people even recommend leaving it IN the case for a few minutes, then opening the case for a few minutes, then placing it on the stand for a few minutes before tuning. It allows the guitar to acclimate to the room.
If your guitar is out of tune EVENLY, then the above should help. But you'll probably still have to tune it.
Don't worry about it.
yeah. prolly the strings not stretched or something.
Also prolly the wear and tear after playing and its starts to oxy-dise
if its a gig bag then the actual gig bag may be moving the tuning keys around.. Hey it happens! I know it seems obvious but some people miss this stuff
It doesn't hurt to let your guitar acclimatise to the temp you're going to be playing in. I played in Cyprus for 3 years, sometimes outside, sometimes in an air-conditioned room. The tuning would be all over the place if I just took it out of the case and started playing.
The only problems I ever have are intonation or not stretching the strings enough. I don't keep my guitar in it's case when I'm at home.. I usually leave it on the stand . However this keeps the guitar quot;in agreementquot; with the room.
