Now that I've found a bridge pickup that I love in my Strat (Blues Saraceno) I'd like to find the perfect neck humbucker. Typically, I have a real problem with neck humbuckers as I always find them to be too droney with not enough overall presence. This has been the case with other guitars and I have yet to try a HB in the neck position of my Strat. I'd like to have the neck and bridge HB's wired to a 5-way switch so I can try some differant coil combinations. Offhand I'm thinking of the Jazz neck model but I'm open to any suggestions. Also, where would be the best place to order a pickup as well as a pickguard from? Thanks.
I have not tried the Blues yet, but I will tell you this...the Pearly Gates is my fav neck bucker...I love it! There are several mini reviews of them here on this site if you do a search...get your guard plate from Warmoth, killer stuff.
Good luck
I've had the Pearly Gates, 59' and APH all in the neck of my double fat strat. The APH is by far the best, with the PG being second. It has great balance, clarity and warmth. As much as you love the blues in the bridge, the APH neck will rock your world.
Order from Black Rose Custom. He is an allparts dealer also, so he can get you whatever parts you need. www.blackrosecustom.emerchantpro.com
I have the Blues in a very Straty Washburn with a PA-Stack and PA-Trembucker Neck. Perfect combo. The PA-Neck is everything I've always wanted in a neck pickup. For all the same reasons you're looking for a Neck pickup. Killer match for the Blues.
Also, I wired my Blues to a push-pull pot so get series-parallel operation. I've not heard a humbucker sound more like a strat pickup than the Blues does in Paralell mode. Just something to try if you're bored and what some more sound options.
