I have a 5-string, and I recently tried the musicians friend premium 5 string, and they are horrible.
Who should I look to for a good set of 5-string strings???
I don't know if they are made for 5 string basses, but DR's stainless steel round wounds with a round core sound fantastic on my Ric 4003.
I play Elixir .045-.130TW Extra Long Scale on my 35quot; 5-string. I like Elixirs, as I play quite a lot. After some serious abuse, they still sound very good and 'fresh', something I appreciate a lot in a set of strings. Besides that, they feel very smooth and silky. They ARE expensive though, but I think they are worth the pricetag compared to the time they last on me (I replace them once every 5 - 6 months, which is a very long time).
I also like Rotosound Swingbass-strings. They don't last as long, but maintain a very good sound for quite some time nonetheless.
