I've been looking for a long time for a guitar with all the features that I want, but cannot find it. So, I'm debating turning my Ibanez into what I want, which will also, in turn, make it a 1 of a kind. What I have is a SA1260, that I'm thinking about having it routed for a floyd. I know the existing nut would have to be removed, and a locking nut installed. And also, the tremelo cavity would have to be enlarged. So, has anyone done this to their guitar? I'm looking to get and idea of the price that a luthier might charge, and whether it can be done right. Any thoughts?

Just out of curiousity, what is it you want from a guitar?

I had a trem-equipped Dillion retrofitted with a Floyd. It set me back about 200 bucks the Floyd. It turned out great but in retrospect was not worth the $$$.

Well basically this. I want a 25.5 scale, bolt on neck. I want a 2 humbucker, 1 single coil. I want a locking trem, and a thicker than usual Ibanez body. The traditional Ibanez s series bodiers are too thin. I also want a traditional kind of look, i.e. no reverse headstock, no sharkfin inlays, and I don't like the RG body style. So basically, modding my existing Ibanez seems to be my only choice. And yes, I will also have to rout the body to make room for the Full size humbucker in the neck.

Basically you're looking for a sane-looking Jackson. Understandable. Just be sure you go with the Floyd Rose Original, which you can get for under $200 a lot of patience. I wouldn't want to do the initial set up (or installation, for that matter) of any Floyd.

Warmoth would probably be a good idea to consider, since there are a few other things you don't like about your Ibenez. If you buy one from them with the floyd cavity already routed, it'll be easier and cheaper to install!

If you do have your Ibenez routed, let us know how it goes. I'm thinking about finding another old guitar to fix up and have it retrofitted with a floyd if it doesn't have one already. I'm curious to see exactly how much work it is.
