I've bought a couple of SD strat pickups off ebay for cheap and I'd like to determine whether one or both of them are RWRP or not. What's the best way to determine this?

The RP is easy, just touch the pole pieces together and if they attract each other they are RP.

If you tell us what models they are we can find out if they are also RW. If they are RP they are probably also RW but I'm not sure if I can blanket statement that because some of the SD singles follow various vintage specs and there may be exceptions.

Since the question has already been answered (to a degree), could someone point out what effect on tone a pickup would put forward if it is reverse wound?

I'm not absolutely positive about this, but I believe that RW/RP simply means that it would be hum-cancelling when combined with a quot;normalquot; wound single. I don't think it has any impact on the sound otherwise.
