The Hamer Special FM came in today and I'm in love! The neck is almost exactly like the 60's slim taper on my Gibson Les Paul Special DC. The flame is simply breathtaking on the guitar, I haven't seen anything like it in quite a while. The whole guitar resonates very well and yet it has a good weight to it (it's built solid). The tuners are extremely smooth and hold their tuning very well (no Gs, Bs or high Es going out of tune like a lot of Gibsons I've played).

This guitar isn't just great for the money, it's an amazing guitar, period. I think I could stick with just Hamer guitars from now on and be perfectly happy. The woods are premium grade, the tone and feel is dead on and there isn't a single flaw I have to put up with.

I haven't played a humbucker guitar in a long time because I'm really a P90 guy at heart. I still have that loyalty to P90s, but when it comes to leads, this Hamer will be the first guitar I pick. I've learned over time what works for my ideal tones and it's P90s for rhythm overdrive, single coils for cleans and humbuckers for leads. There's a thickness and a chunk that I was missing with the singles in my band and the Rio Grande BBQ/Texas set really changes that (I hate to say it guys, but they sound much better to my ears than the SD Antiquities I had in my Gibson Les Paul Standard way back when). I like this guitar enough to invest $300 into some Lollar Imperials, so stay tuned for that, but for now the Rio Grande will work quite nicely. Man, my band is going to LOVE my tone now! It's all perfect timing too! (next month my band might be recording our very first full length).

Bravo Hamer, I forsee more in the future

I think that what you meant to say is that it sucks and that no-one should even consider buying a used Hamer unless its one of the Korean-made guitars. The USA versions should be avoided at all costs. Especially on eBay, or anywhere else I might find one.

(Glad you dig yours)

I used to/am jamming again with a guy I knew from highschool and he has gone all Hamer. He's picked up a bunch of different models over the years on Ebay all for GREAT prices. He's got a Californian, 2 Diablos, and 2 Centauras. They're all great to play, the FR's on them are perfect. If I wasn't a Strat guy I'd be playing them.

I have an Artist Korina HB, a Special FM, a Mirage I, a Californian, and I have owned a Diablo and a Chaparral in the past. Hamers are definitely 1st class instruments. When I graduate I am going to order a custom shop Hamer as a gift to myself. They are definitely among the best guitars in the world. No matter when it was made or what model it is, I can pick up a USA Hamer and it instantly feels comfortable in my hands. I have never been able to say that about any other guitar.

Glad you like yours. If history is any indication, this will not be your last Hamer.

very cool Chris!!!

i soooooooo freaking want a Hamer!!!!

Got any pics, Chris? I'm always up for a little Hamer GAS.

I'm a single coil/P90/mini-hum kinda guy myself, but I'd like to grab another humbucker guitar again one of these days.

I sold my Hamer a little bit ago so I could afford the Firebird.....don't regret it, but yeah, it's different. I'd buy a Hamer again, no problem!!!

Ahhh yes. Another soul has turned from the dark side. Enjoy it. Love it. Not that those will be hard to do. Hamers rock!!

I've looked around and there seems to be a lot of talk about Hamer recently, it reminds me of when the big companies quality faltered in the 60s and 70s the first time. Hamer has stuck to their guns and seem to be reaping the rewards... again.

GS

yup...people who know and want quality are definitely drawn to them...all you have to do is pick one up and take a look at the true beauty and expert craftsmanship that goes into them...second to none...imho of course!?

JeffB's plan is working, and he hasn't been around much lately.

I absolutely love the Specials. I played one of those and an import Sunburst a few weeks ago and just about lost my mind after playing them. The Special was a dream. I wanted to sell all my guitars and get that one right then and there.

As for the Sunburst, I have never played an import guitar that played as well as that Sunburst. It was absolutely perfect. No fret buzz anywhere. Flawless finish, gorgeous wood. For the price, those are the best in their class.

nope...I haven't been around much, sorry....life, gettin in the way of all my fun

They are spectacular guitars for sure...gorgeous...flawlessly built...great tone/resonance and playability. I believe I'm gonna have to sell mine due to finances unfortunately, but when I can afford one again, I'm going for a Monaco Elite.

Congrats Chris....you got yourself a fantastic instrument, play it in good health

There's the Hamer instigator...LOL LOL.

WTF????? Selling yours???? What are ya gonna have left to play?

Hamers kick serious bootay.

Glad you like yours. BTW, if you do end up getting rid of the Rio's, let me know. I've been looking at the BBQ for a while.

I forgot about your Jackson. Man, I'm sorry to hear this. And you love that thing too. The good thing is you can get another one.

BBQ in a doublecut Hamer sounds great, definitely my favorite non-Duncan pickup.

Ryan

So apparently I'm the only guy on the planet who does not like the BBQ/Genuine Texas in a Hamer double cut. Pretty much all the guys on the Hamer board who have used this set-up think that it came from the ejaculate of Jesus himself. Personally, I found them to be a bit too bright. I am so much more fond of the APH-1 in the bridge of my Hamer Special FM and within the next week I will be installing a Seth Lover in the neck. So I'll let you know how that sounds. But, what is it about the Rio's that people love so much? I know that tone is subjective, but I guess I'll just never understand. It's probably the same as why I'll never understand why people like the JB.

I have the Alnico 2 Pro in the neck, along with the BBQ. I like it because my Hamer is a tad bit bright, even though it has a mahogany body and neck, maple top, and rosewood fretboard. I like the BBQ because it warms up the sound from the bridge position without resorting to Alnico 2 pickups. I get a nice AC/DC type of lead tone, which is exactly what I was after.

Well, I'm doing everything I can to keep it...It will def be a last resort.

I pulled out the Jackson the other night for first time in months and was like quot;ewwwwwwwwwquot; 24 frets..long scales.. just not my thing..felt like walking around with your left shoe on your right foot and vice versa.
