I have an ESP SC-200 (Basswood body/Rose Wood fingerboard) now equipped with a JB pup, but can't seem to get the right oomph to it.

Which one would you recommend Invader (SH-8) or Duncan Distortion (SH-6)?

I play a hybrid genre of Emo and Alternative Metal ie. from a very serene and clean sound to very distorted. And Drop-D tunings as well

Thanks so much for you quick replies
M

I'm not sure if either are super clean pickups because of the cermaic magnets they have. You say oomph, but what doesn't the JB have that you want?

What kind of amp?

Hi Thanks for your reply

I can't get the same distorted sounds as with my Ibanez SZ-320 equipped with a Duncan Custom.. you know the oomph sound with muted strings. And it's also a litte bit lower in volume. I play a mesa boogie emultated setting on my line 6 Duoverb. I guess it's because of the basswood body in my ESP so I figure I need a more aggressive pup.

What do you reckon?

M

The Invader is going to have a ton more bottom end -- what I think you mean by quot;ooomphquot; -- at the expense of having ZERO clarity. The Distortion does okay at the oomph (though the SD tone chart would lead you believe otherwise...) and has a remarkably open sounding top end. It also cleans up pretty well. I assume you don't want another Custom just because you already have one of those?

Hi

That's right I'm in for trying something new which each guitar. So I have narrowed it down to either the DD or Invader pup. So would the DD offer me more 'metal' oomph yet stille being able to grant me some decent clean tones whereas the Invader would be more only oomph capable?

Sorry my childlike expressions, but it's the only way I can formulate it.

M

I don't have experience with either, but from what I read on this forum, I think the DD would have better cleans. I don't know how much better though.

The custom is cermaic too, and if you like those cleans, you will probably be alright with DD's cleans. Maybe even invaders!

I would wait for some DD/Invader users instead of listening to a guy that is just waiting for his gf to get out of class(me).

I know some people don't really like it, but My suggestion is the Invader. I've had several and they're great for metal!
You can also do a little mod to take off some of the bottom end if you so desire, you can PM me or theodie about that one...
The Invader is great, and it's my suggestion to you!

Rock On!!!

ok thanks a bit confused but thanks. I was actually thinking that I could equalize my way out of it gaining more clarity in the clean sounds..

Yeah.. I've got a 6-band EQ that I use as well as my amp's EQ, but the mod is helpful if you don't have enough EQ to change the sound to what you're looking for.
Rock On!

The DD offers ver nice cleans, despite the name. It also goes Chugga Chugga in a way that pleases some people. I prefer the Custom over the DD in that arena, but then I prefer the Custom over MOST pickups in that arena. The Invader...well...I'm not really a fan. Too often it wants to go beyond Ooomph straight to PHAAARRT. I don't have experience with the mod mentioned above, though, so perhaps that would help.

If I were choosing between these two, and ONLY these two, then I'd go with the DD.Originally Posted by mikpHi

Any other recommendations...just looked at the Tone Chart the DD does look pretty good as well though...but really need a low end chunk but still a nice clean sound for the silent parts

dimebucker?

Thanks for all your input. I will think about it all...
Keep me updated if you have other thoughts on this matter.
I really appreciate your suggestions

I've got a guitar similar to yours.
Basswood body, rosewood fretboard, but it's got a floyd Rose brige.
Just 1 pickup... A seymour duncan Invader, and I have no plans of changing it to anything else.

Rock On Bro!

dimebucker yeah actually that could be the another good alternative

Ok Thanks KAC

What kind of style do you play? and what's your feeling about the versatility of the invader?

It can play cleans, and I will post a clip of it with clean and dist. later this week, so stay tuned.
It's got crazy output, excellent for metal!

I do not tune down lower than drop D, so I use the Invader for E standard and Drop D, I play metal.

Some of my music is posted at the newest ones on there were recorded with a DiMarzio Super Distortion

The clips I'm gonna post near the end of this week will be a good example of what the Invader can do.

Rock On!

ok if you should choose between Dimarzio SD and invader what ould you choose?

If I personally had to choose I would choose the Invader, I am taking the Super Distortion out of my HM Strat tomorrow probably and an Invader is going in.

Rock On!

thanks again I'm probably go with the Invader due to my present experiences with the JB and Custom pup
