Since Eddie VH ended his Peavey contract at the end of the last VH tour I have been reading different roumors online that EVH is working with Marshall for a Signature amp to replace his 5150 stuff... Anyone else hear this? If it's true it sounds like a great amp already....

Anyone see the video clips floating around of the last VH show from the last tour. At the end of Right Now Ed smashed a Wulfgang.... Then at the end of the show he smashed another Wulfgang and tipped his amps over......

As cool as Soldanos and 5150's are, I certainly hope that wouldn't be the sound Marshall goes for if this rumor is true (and it really does seem to just be a rumor).

As far as I am concerned 1984 was the last really good quot;brown soundquot; album (and IMO the best). His tone on later material is too distorted, too compressed and doesn't have that NMV Marshall quot;sparklequot;.

If you are looking for the brown sound a current 1959X or 1987X will get ya really damn close (In fact I feel the 50 watt sounds better than the 1959X for that type of thing, and the reason I purchased it over the 100 watter).

I think the real question is------

If EVH isn't using his 5150's what is he using right now?

Jim Marshall killed this rumor awhile back. Flat out said they weren't building anything for him.

I doubt he is using anything. quot;Kin folk say boy move away from here, Betty Ford is the the place ya outta bequot; Should be his theme song these days. He needs it.

there were rumors flying around that he was going to crate.

I think Guitar World Magazine has been fueling this rumor (either intentionally or unintentionally) by listing two bands recently in their Tune Ups section as using quot;Marshall 5150quot; for amps. I don't know if thats another model number for a previously unrecognized amp (I had a combo model #4104) or a new model but either way its irritatingly close.

Jim Marshall did kill the rumor at NAMM, I dunno why people are hanging onto it so badly when VH is in shambles.

Ya being the owner of a 5150 stack, i have that sound already..... I bought a JCM 800 50 watter a few months back and when i get it fixed up i hope it gets me closer to the vintage Roth era Halen. I love both tones! I really like that huge over distorted tone of the Live Right Here Right Now cd's... But i also like the brighter Cleaner sound of the Roth era where Ed had Ash bodied strats and a Marshall....... Oneday i would like to try a 1959x or 1987x...... Until then the mid 80's JCM 800 will have to do.
