Other than a DIY job combining coils from two existing pickups or hand unwinding one coil?
Check out I'm not at liberty to divulge the pricing on my mismatches but Jon Moore will set you up signicantly less than Fralin.
Well, the Pearly Gates is mismatched.
Aren't many of the DiMarzio pickups mismatched?
But to the original post -- the cheapest way (it's free) to get a mismatch is to partially unwind one coil.
It's not as difficult as you might think, though it does require a gentle touch, and possibly some new coil tape in case the old doesn't stick after you take it off.
The idea with the Unbucker is not just to have mismatched coils and get a brighter tone out of a humbucker...it's also to have one that's wound strong enough to sound good as a single coil. So in a 8K Unbucker you might find a 3.5K coil and 4.5K coil. Of course you could start with a 9K humbucker with two 4.5K coils and unwind one all the way down to 3.5K. Lew
True, but then I'm looking at it from the perspective of a Spin-A-Split fan, who sees the old coil-split switch as, well...obsolete.
The Lace Drop amp; Gain's are also mismatched.
bareknuckle pickups made a really crazy set for a brian shepard guitar - had the winds of a good strong tele bridge pickup in one coil, and a much weaker one next to it.. guitar mag said it was the best attempt ever made at a LP/Tele hybrid!
so yeah.. BKP might be worth a look

Are there any mis-matched coil options cheaper than the Unbucker?
