can any body give me any step by steps on how to go about doing this: I want to install an on/off switch into the neck pick up without affecting or replacing the pick up selector. Its a HH configued Jagmaster( dont laugh, i love cheap guitars) Or could i simply istall it in the input jack and ahve on/off comtoll over the whole guitar? if i did that would i just put the switch in the wire that goes from the input jack to the volume control and ground the switch? any help would be much appreciated.
welcome
yes a master on / off kill switch could go where you describe it to d the job you want
a neck pickup on/off switch would be different and you could do it without needing to mess with the existing pickup selector ... just put it between the hot and ground wire of the neck pickup
good luck

thanx! so i just need to cut the wire (white, i think it is) from my input jack to thw volume control, strip both ends a little , connect each end to a prong on the switch( it a 3 prong switch) and then ground the 3rd prong? Now, when i cut that wire, is it simply a single wire in a plastic shield or is it a wire thats wrapped up in a another wire?
hmmm, that doesnt sound correct .. i'd have to know exactly what kind of switch you have to be sure ... if it is a simple quot;aquot; / quot;bquot; switch, then you'd put the wire to the output jack in the center and the signal from the volume pot on one side and the ground on the other ... so quot;aquot; would be quot;onquot; and quot;bquot; would be quot;offquot; ...
as for the wire, i'd have to see that too ... there is a 'hot' signal wire going to the output jack's 'tip' and a ground wire that goes to the jack's 'sleeve' ... other guys on here would know if there is a better way to do all this .. seems like it would work to me ...
good luck

wont i get a lotta hum when i flip the switch off, i mean if the off posistion its just going to be a cable connected to a metal plug right? or will it be quiet cuz its grounded?
i was thinking it would be dead quiet because you will be grounding the guitar's output ... essentially nothing will get out of the guitar ... i was afraid it would buzz like mad if you just let the input open ... hell, try it both ways and tell us what you find ... won't hurt nothing, espcially if you do it at moderate volume ... i am curious as to whether or not you'll get a 'pop' sound or not
cheers
