Anybody ever use one of these? Any thoughts?
I really wanna know as well.
I've used 2 guitars with one fitted. The first was a Heartfield Talon with a Floyd and it worked superbly well, tuning was bang on and no flutter or sag when bending strings. The other was a Strat Plus and I couldn't get it setup right and it drove me mad. If they're set up correctly they can be great, but a nightmare if not, and they are fiddly to set up. It does seemingly tighten the string tension because you get no movement when you bend a string, which can take some getting used to. I fyou're not careful all your bends sound flat until you get used to the extra tension.
I have used one. Personally, I Do not like it! IMO, it just makes the trem stiffer than hell. Yes, I set it up a number of different ways trying to combat this situation with no luck! Its just part of its design!
One came on my old Strat Plus. Didn't seem to help much. I took it out and set the vibrato flush against the body. I recommend that, if it's a Fender type - better tone, stays in tune if a string breaks, and the strings don't sag flat during double-stop bends.
As for it getting real stiff...it can't be any more satiff than a Telecaster so thats cool, and as for setting the trem flush to the body, that is out of the question, I just can't play a Fender (or any other) trem like that.
I guess it really all depends on the bridge type. I've used them in the past w/ great success. I really don't see a need for them on a vintage style bridge or flush mount floyd. I'll sometimes use them on original Floyds when the knives are worn. Ironically though, every Edge equipped guitar I've owned ended up w/ one it it. I guess the edge bridges are far to spongy feeling for my liking?
It will stiffen the action of the bridge up quite a bit. Too much if there is no need for one!
