Can you guys recommend me some beginner-level Hendrix songs that would be good for me to start learning?
I'm not a total beginner, been playing for several months and still have a LOT to learn and most of Hendrix's stuff looks pretty hard.
Thanks for any recommendations.
Foxey Lady
The Wind Cries Mary is a pretty easy song to start out with . . . from there go to purple haze or (if you have a wah) voodoo chile. When you start to feel really ****y give Little Wing a try. That's sort of the order that I learned his stuff in . . . just get used to the techniques that he used, like fretting bassnotes with your thumb, and lots of double stops while soloing. Hope that helps!
Hey Joe was the first one I learned.
Thanks guys. What about some Clapton stuff? I'm really diggin both of these guys a lot and i figure it can't hurt to model some of my playing after these 2 greats.
Well, quot;Little Wingquot; was done by both Hendrix AND Clapton. As far as Hendrix goes, quot;Wind Cries Maryquot; is always worth learning as is quot;Foxy Ladyquot;, and I was always partial to quot;Crosstown Trafficquot;. With Clapton, there's even more to choose from. Anything off of quot;Disraeli Gearsquot; or quot;Fresh Creamquot; is worth listening to, as well as his sideline work with Delaney amp; Bonnie and some really fun stuff is to be had listening to a George Harrison collection called quot;Apple Jamquot;. Later on, just about anything with Derek amp; the Dominoes, Blind Faith, George Harrison (quot;Badgequot; springs to mind), some of his solo work (quot;Slowhandquot;) and a lot of material from the last 20 years.
Something else you might enjoy are certain artists who seem to be highly influenced by these two gentlemen. Randy Hansen, SRV, Eric Johnson, Jon Bucher, Eric Gales, Jeff Healey just to name a few.
