im debating on getting either a Vamp 2 or pod xt for recording and for a really heavy distortion mesa rectifier sound.
i wont be purshasing the extra mudules for i will be traveling alot.
i know it may be unfair to compare the vamp with the pod xt but i wanted to read your thoughts on this one before i made up my mind.Please use the search function...

But, to summarize;

The V-amp sounds like complete ****.

The PODxt kicks complete ass.

You can search the forum and get lots of ideas but...most people will tell you that the POD is far better. That said, I have heard recordings done with a both that I thought were great and that I thought were crap...

i have a pod xt live and it does the mesa thing really, really well

I disagree. The Rectifier model is pretty lacking, but the Soldano and JCM800 are both pretty cool.

Also, bear in mind this is a rather apples amp; oranges comparison. The V-Amp is like $100 with a gig bag and footswitch. The PODXT is $300 with no gig bag or footswitch. The POD does sound better, but for $100 and some cool freebies, the V-amp is pretty killer.

Besides, the Boss GT-6 f*cks both of them all to pieces

For direct recording, the PODxt will own all other modellers (for high gain), IMO.

For home playing; a GT-6 will sound best, followed by the PODxt and then V-amp.Saying that the V-amp sounds like complete **** might have been overstating it a bit... but I know I can't honestly recommend that thing to anyone with a good conscious.

I've got a V-Amp Pro and it sounds pretty good, but I find myself only using a few of the amp models, and none of the effects. If you want to get real in-depth with effects and whatnot, get the PODxt, otherwise the V-Amp could work for you. I'll even sell you mine if you want.

The vamp is the type of thing where it sounds great for the first few months you play it and then as you get used to the sound you wonder how you ever liked it. It takes WAY too much work to make it sound even close to believable for lead sounds, the rhythm sounds tend to be either too digital or too harsh, and every cab sim has nasty resonances. Save yourself the headache!
