i just bought a sh-5 for an epiphone LP standard , ok i know ..have to solder but the old pick up had just two wires white and ground i think / and the diagram shows something more easy but then i would have to desolder because they are wired diferent than the diagram. more cables id say . ok .i taped black and white and i got sound but when i switch the midle the volume lowers i dont know if the pick up is giving its 100% or is it becacuse their diferent and causes intereference and what about the remaining wires ? if some one could help id would apreciate very much. I know a smart option maybe could be to take it to a shop but id rather learn. thanx

2) congrats on preferring to learn instead of pay someone to do it !! .. that's a great attitude ...

3) twist and solder the red and white together then wrap the junction in electrical tape ... solder the black to the hot (wherever the hot was with the epi stock pickup) ... solder the green and bare wires to ground ... should work great ...

4) if the middle position still sounds wrong, then put the black wire to ground (with the bare) and use the green for hot

if this doesnt make sense, then let us know .. you'll have to type in more clear sentences, and maybe with some punctuation, in order to help us understand what you want and what the problem is .. we'll be happy to help get you squared away

On the Epis and many other LP wired type guitars, the black lead will connect to the #3 terminal of the volume pot, where the other pickups conductor was wired to.

Solder the green and plain to the pot chassis, where the braided sheilding was connected before.

Do that thing with the red/white wires and you are good to go.
