I'm looking to set up a fat hollowbody with 1 neck and 1 bridge pup. The pups should compliment the old Mississippi delta blues style, but also might use it for some rockabilly like Bill Haley or the Stray Cats type of sound. Is this too wide a music range for one guitar? My first thought here was P90s, but then maybe again phat cats.

well, Phat Cats are P-90's, they're just made to fit a 'bucker rout. For an old Gibson jazz box tone, they're great. If you want more of a Gretsch sound, TV Jones makes a pickup called the TV'tron, which should nail the Stray Cat tones you're after.

you could probably do rockabilly with the phat cat, and you could probably do blues with the tv'tron, but if you are looking to get THOSE sounds exactly, the proper pickups and amps and guitars would help quite a bit.

try the phat cats, youll love em!!

maybe try mixing and matching. maybe the phat cat bridge and tv'tron neck (not sure how they would mix, i think the tv'tron is a fairly low output pickup, not sure about the phat cat)

the phat cats have a decent amount of output, not high output but pretty snotty and i think it would work well for rockabilly or blues

I recomend you to try the Humbucker sized TvTrons from Tv Jones. Thoose are pretty amazing pickups, clean and detailed with a great quot;break inquot; tone. Perfect to nail Setzer. They doesn't handle extreme overdrive pretty well but that it isn't what you are looking for. IMO TvTron have a clearer and expanded tone compared to P-90, with more highs and lows. In fact P-90's midrange and high output tone it isn't too desirable for that rockabilly twangy and clear tone.

Another great pickup for that style it's the 59' humbucker, I would prefer it to P-90's. 59's are also clear and twangy... That's Rockabilly about!

Most eveyone should understand the sound when I say Rockabilly, but for the Mississippi style blues I meant more of the Stella acoustic sound of Robert Johnson. So Far I havn't heard the P90s but have heard something called a P3 (i think) on an epiphone. I do have seth lovers which are ok but think they are still not quite right. Where do I get and/or hear the TvTrons?

You can get TvTrons from or But they are not cheap.

TvTrons are humbucker sized Filtertrons (the ones Setzer uses). I've tried both and TvTrons and Filtertrons and the tone is practicaly identical. So I guess you can hear them on every Setzer record...
