I was doing some serious thinking about all the gear I've gone through, but I really am extremely happy now. For now, I've pretty much got all the bases covered and I couldn't be much happier.

Here's my gear:

Guitars:

Don Grosh Bent Top Custom w/ WCR Darkburst/SR/SR pickups, Callaham steel block

Gibson '60 RI Les Paul Special DC (thinking about upgrading tuners to locking, the nut to an Earvana and the bridge tailpiece to a Tone Pro... the pickups are staying stock for a first time and this guitar is going to be a keeper)

Ovation 1771LX

Amp:

Fargen Epic 30 DC 2x12'' combo

Effects:

Pro Analog Supa Quack
Pro Analog Dual Drive
Clay Jones OD
Peterson Strobostomp
ISP Decimator

I can get everything from jazz to funk to classic rock to hard rock to fusion with my setup. For once I've dialed in everything to the point where I can get almost any flavor I want. I can cop Santana's Dumble tone and turn around and play Black Crowes stuff with the flick of a toggle switch, it's amazing.

What's your gear and are you satisfied with it?

IM happy with my guitar, my american strat w/ surfers and a lf sp43. But not so happy with my Marshall MG100HDFX and effects that consists of a Cry Baby Jimi Hendrix Wah Wah basically. I could have it alot worse though, but my amp doesnt get the clean bluesy sound i want.

I'm pretty happy. I run a maple necked Yamaha Pacifica with an EMG 85 into a Tech 21 Trademark 60 amp. That amp owns, the guitar is alright, but I'd prefer a fatter neck and a mahogany body. I love the maple neck, but maple necked guitars with mahogany bodies are very hard to find. I think I'm just gonna stick with the Yamaha until I'm ready to build my own custom guitar from Warmoth parts. The amp definitely sounds good, especially with a Boss Super Overdrive goosing the gain a little. The British channel sounds just like a JCM800. I need to get a fixed wah type pedal so my leads will honk a little bit more.

I remember a thread like this from way back when, but it's great to have it brought back up.

I'm actually extremely satisfied tone-wise. The XXX may not nail a Recto's tone, but you know what? It nails 'my' tone, and that's all that matters. My cab may not look very pretty with its covered gray carpet, but it sounds damned nice, and I got it for 115!

Feel wise, my Schecter is great, but the Jackson RR1 arriving Wednesday will most likely become my new baby.

I need to get an FX unit, for reverb and whatnot. My Behringer isn't cutting it that well. But hell, just a reverb pedal, and I'd be happy.

But I'm still a GAS whore. I'm already planning my next guitar, before the one on order even comes. I'm thinking a USA Dinky or SL3...

Always happy, never lasts.

Man, my stuff is always evolving. Here's the current lineup:

Ibanez RG570 - DiMarzio X2N in the bridge (no neck or middle pickups), vol knob
ESP/Ltd M100 - Dimebucker in the bridge (no neck pickup), vol knob
Fender Deluxe Strat - Lace Sensor Red, Silver, Blue set, standard wiring

Digitech RP100
Behringer V-Amp 2
Boss Metal Zone
Dunlop GCB-95 Cry Baby
Sabine STX-1100 tuner

SD Invader, SD Distortion, EMG 81, EMG 85

This does not include guitars in various states of disassembly, or the one that's on the way. At home, I play either the Digitech or the V-Amp through a Stone practice amp, and use my drummer's Peavey full stack otherwise.

Am I happy... I could be, but I choose to keep trying different stuff.

I'm pretty happy.
Guitars
Driskill Diablo
PRS Custom 24 w/solid IRW neck
PRS CE 22
2x PRS CE24
Amps
Fuchs-modded Traynor
Rivera Rake
Peters 3CP1
FX
Line 6 POD XT Live
HAO Rumble Mod
Yamaha Magic Stomp
Tone Jam quot;Sniper Modquot; GE7
BBE Stinger
Boss CS3
Boss V-Wah
EB Volume Pedal
I must admit that I've been haunted by an amp that I played a few weeks ago but for the stuff that I'm likely to play in a band situation, it's hard to beat the stuff I already have.

I was in the same boat you were, except i had an Ibanez GAX 70! 2 years later and I got the american deluxe strat w/ surfers, a spina modded TS9 and a blackface bandmaster head w/ a jbl d130f speaker. Happier than ever, and the SRV chops sound amazing through all the gear.

One of the best deals for a sweet SRV tone would be a bandmaster reverb head. Those go for cheap, and with the cash you save you could get it blackfaced and grab an avatar cab and put weber californias in it.

This is true to a point. Half the fun of the quot;searchquot; is finding something even better!

I'd be lying if I said that I wouldn't look into the new Suhr amps coming out later this year or start saving up for an acoustic amp for my setup (an AER Compact 60 is looking good).

However, playing with others, my gear has been cutting perfectly in the mix with exactly the flavor I've been craving, unlike any of the other stuff I used to own. I've got a band that's doing exactly what I've been hearing in my head for the first time and it's all coming together, so I'm pretty ecstatic with everything at this point (I better be content with my gear, because I have $20 in my bank account )

Wow, I thought I was pretty happy about my tone...

Guitars-
Fender MIM Fat Strat
Olympia by Tacoma OD-3 acoustic

Amp-
Peavey Classic 30

Once I get a new acoustic I will be very happy with my tone.

I'm not real happy yet but hope to be soon.

Main amp: Fender M-80 120 watt head and 4X12 cabnet

Strat #1 currently being modded, soon to be:
Alder body, Maple neck/fretboard, 21 frets, Dimebucker Bridge, Dean Neck Humbucker, 3 way switch, Standard Fender tremelo bridge w/ 5 springs, 1 volume knob

Strat #2 also currently being worked on:
Alder body, Maple neck/Rosewood fretboard, 21 frets, '59 Bridge Humbucker, Strat single-coil neck pickup, Standard Fender tremelo bridge w/ 5 springs, 1 push/pull volume knob

Effects:
Pickup Booster, High Gain Volume Pedal, Crybaby Wah Pedal, MXR Dime Distortion Pedal, Built in Chorus and Reverb (Fender M-80)

Rock On

i'm very happy with my amp/pedal setup, though the rectoverb is one heavy sucker to move (the whole setup is in my sig). i love my SG, but am looking at adding something with singlecoils in the near future, possibly a fender jimmy vaughan strat.

Chris, first of all congradulations for the 60ri, when you made the comment about quot;black crowes with the flick of a switchquot; were you talking baout the 60 ri w/ the p90s? because I've been curious of how close p90s can come to that black crowes style tele bridge tone?

I'm pretty content with my gear which is only one guitar, my 57RI refin les paul, and what a guitar it is! Through my mojotone 1x12 cab w/ what will soon be a 50w plexi modded for P-PI MV. I just plain love guitars and plan on humbly collecting them just out of love for them, Over the necks 10-20 years I plan on adding a tele, strat, p90 GT, firebird, and maybe 1-2 more pauls...haha. And maybe some kind of small tweed clone type amp.

o ya and I'm pretty content with my effects, a budda bud wah, delay, boss tu-2 and hopefully a voodoo labs micro vibe in the near future.

Thanks; I was scared originally to buy a Gibson, but I got it from a really good dealer and it's perfect; in fact, it's going to be my main player from now on

P90s bark, plain and simple. It pushed my amp harder than my humbuckers have. I love the classic rock tone with them. The clarity and bite of a single coil, with a fuller tone and more sustain. I never thought I'd like them, but this guitar's tonal properties are quickly becoming quot;itquot; for me. I'm not actually a big fan of single coils in the bridge, but the Gibson p90s are amazing. They're fat and articulate, and they can go from smooth to downright nasty.

Guitars
Carvin DC200 - Custom Custom/Jazz
U.S. Masters Vector (on it's way here) - Bill Lawrence HSS

Amp
ENGL Screamer 50 through an Avatar 2x12 V30/G12H30

Effects
none

I can go from metal to jazz with the push of a button and the flick of a switch. The ENGL provides an amazing crunch tone along with it's awesome overdrive and cleans. I am perfectly happy, but I'm thinking about a delay and super shifter.

I am not happy with my gear
Broken peavy raptor plus
Sx strat that i did a crappy solder job on and its noisy as hell
Some peavy 15 w practice amp that came with the guitar
THe one thing i am very happy with is my MIM standard tele with hotrails. Soon to be getting a coolrails in the neck

I'm very happy with my main set up.... The 5150 head and a Peavey Classic 50 head into an Axess Electronics Head Switcher and then into either a full size 5150 cab or a smaller Marshall 1912 cab for smaller places...... My main gig guitars are a Jackson and a Godin and i love them... I want to replace the Jackson with a Warmoth that has a Floyd Original oneday but i still really like the Jackson!

At home i have tons of other guitars and amps that i fool around on.... I have about 6-7 amps and about 18 Electrics.... I have Squire Strats, Jacksons, Charvels, Mex Strats, American Standard Strats, Custom made Starts, Odd Ball Parts guitars. a 76 Les Paul, an Eppiephone LP, a Tele, and on and on and on......

I'm happy with what i have and the sound i want from it, but want more...... I have never found the perfect Strat tone yet!

Sell off a ton of guitars that you don't use as much as you should and save up for a Lentz, the end all of strats IMHO.

I'm really happy with what I have right now. For how long I've been playing(little over 2 years) I feel lucky to have what I have. My roomie has been playing for 12 years and his main guitars are still Squires. Of course there will always be that killer LP with the sweet quilt top that I'll be lusting over, thats not gonna change. With not much experience I got major GAS and just wanted every guitar and amp in the world even though I couldn't do them justice. Recently I realized I need to stop buying and just start playing. Once I can play the hell out of what I have then I'll step up to the $2000 LPs and $3000 amps. I'm still searching for my tone. What I like the best currently is my LP Jr. - Spina DS-1 - HRD

Guitars:
Gibson Les Paul Jr.
Ibanez GAX 70 - 59n/C-5b CTS pots, orange caps, gotch tuners
Fender MIM Tele- SD vintage tele stack bridge
Ibanez PF series acoustic/electric

Amps:
Hot Rod Deluxe - JJ 6V6s and ECC83Ss
Crate GX-15R practice amp

Effects:
MXR Dyna Comp
Boss OS-2
Boss BD-2
Boss DS-1(Spina Moded)
Arion Stereo Chorus
Digitech RP50
Heil Talkbox

i'm happy...but i don't have much gear...so with more gear...or at least some gear...i hope to be happier (if that makes sense)

at the present time...i have zero electric guitars...1 takamine flat-top (which i love), a USA P-bass (which i love, but wanna try bassslines in), a tech 21 120 it's good but not rivera good , and no bass amp and zero pedals... that's kinda depressing now that i think about it...lol!!!

a guitar amp with no guitar and a bass with no bass amp... how did that happen...LOL?!

what i think will make me happy is the quot;TeleHossquot; that JohnJohn is working on for me...a Hamer Monaco Elite...a Rivera Fandango and a GenzBenz bass rig...?! that should do me for a few weeks...lol!
