so im thinking either:
Line 6 - Space Chorus
Boss - CE-20
Boss - Super Chorus
I'm going for a nice sound to add to my clean just wondering what you guys think of each pedal, goods or bads.
I'd look for a used Boss CE-2... listen to The Police records... it's on EVERY FRICKIN SONG!!!
If you want to take it up a notch then I'd go for one of these 2: Analogman Clone Chorus, Voodoo Labs Analog Chorus.

Actually, Andy Summers didn't use a chorus, he used a flanger (EH Electric Mistress?) but set it for a large chorus-ing kinda sound rather than the jet-plane swoosh we usually thing of with flangers. For some reason quot;Policequot; and quot;Chorusquot; have become synonymous despite the fact that Andy didn't use one.
His own words (circa 1983): quot;I also have a Peter Cornish custom-made pedalboard which contains an MXR Phase 90, an MXR analog delay, a Mutron III envelope follower, a fuzz, an Electro-Harmonix flanger and a Dyna-Comp compressor. I carry two echoplexes on tour, both of which are about fifteen years old.quot;
For a good chorus cheap, look at used CE-3's. They sound just like a CE-2 (but with a 2nd stereo output). They haven't yet caught on as quot;vintagequot; so their prices are much lower than the CE-2's. I think I paid $35 for my CE-3 a few months ago, whereas CE-2's are more like $80. Still the best chorus sound out there, in my book.

Well I'll be damned!
I've got a Super Chorus. Its the only chorus pedal i've had alot of use with and always gave me pretty good results. Had a nice subtle effect, or just max the rate and get a fast vibrato type effect. Im sure there are better pedals out there but this one got the job done for me. Im getting away from using so many effects so im actually selling mine, if your interested or have any other questions feel free to PM me.

I own both of these chorus pedals and they're great. I'm selling the Voodoo Lab pedal since it has a slight volume boost when you engage it (though that's minimized when in the effects loop). Something to keep in mind if you were to look at getting one. Both are pricey new though.
I've got a boss chorus ensemble - the CE-5
It has 3 knobs and 2 quot;cutquot; knobs. I really don't know the difference, I just bought it because it looked fancy. Sounds chorusy to me. Lol
The Boss CE-2 is the best mono chorus pedal I have evr used. It sounds much better than the CE-3, IMO. I have a CE-3 but it's not as rich sounding as the CE-2. The CE-2 just sounds quot;rightquot;. If you want a stereo one, I like the Danolectro Cool Cat. I have one and when I play it through two amps in stereo the sound is SO WIDE... it's a very inspiring tone.
The best chorus pedal I have ever used was an Ibanez CS-9. Blew the doors off any Boss (YMMV).
Line 6 - Space Chorus
Never tried it.Boss - CE-20
Good - I own a CE-2 and a CE-20, and the CE-20 is on my pedalboard. The analog sim gets me close enough to the CE-2 sound to make me happy, but it's the extra versitility that makes me choose it over the CE-2. I only use it in stereo mode, so I don't know how this pedal sounds in mono.
Bad - I donno....I really like this one. I suppose that if you're an analog purist you won't like this no matter what.Boss - Super Chorus
Good - Brighter sounding chorus that cuts through gain quite well.
Bad - Brighter sounding chorus that doen't sound clean as much.

For some reason? It's for the very reason you gave -- it sounds he's using a chorus whether he actually used one or not.
I get a good quot;chorusquot; tone from a non-chorus pedal too, Boss pitchshifters slightly de-tuned.
I'm also partial to the vintage MXR Stereo Chorus. It's useless in mono but in stereo, you stomp it and you get this suddenly huge sound that makes the room feel like it's swirling slowly. They have a new, fancier version out now that I haven't tried yet but will when the debt is paid off...
Didn't Andy use a Roland Jazz Chorus amp? If so, the Boss Chorus would've been built right into the amp. Joni Mitchell has said that amp was specifically designed for her, BTW. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the truth too.
Do the Acoustic and Bass modes on the CE-20 work with an electric guitar?

Interesting comments - you're the first I've heard that hears a major difference. My current CE-3 sounds just like I remember my CE-2's sounding back in the day, but I confess that it's been 20 years in between. I've not done a side-by-side comparison.

Not with the Police, anyway - JMP 2203 heads with 6550's. quot;Thequot; Police sound is the MXR Dyna-Comp, the Electric Mistress, and the delay/echoplex. The Dyna-Comp gives it that spitting clean sound that might get confused for a JC-120.
A guy who used a similar setup was Jamie West-Oram of the Fixx. Same deal - heavy compression into JMP MV Marshalls. I think One Thing Leads to Another was a Dyna-Comp (maybe 2) into a stereo chorus, splitting to a pair of JMP 2204's. But again, everyone thinks of him as a JC-120 guy.

yeah but i might get a JSX im gonna try one out cause apparently it has a nicer clean channel, and i like chorus on my clean channels i just think it makes it sound pretty
the space chorus might be alright (i am going to get the line 6 echo park soon)
When I was shopping for a chorus pedal, I tried both the CH-3 (?) and the CE-5 and actually prefered the CE-5. At the time, I preffered this pedal becuase it offered more flexibility in shaping the tone.
Since then I bought an MXR EVH pahse 90. With the knob turned low, I get a very clean, spacey chorus effect that I actually prefer over the Boss. It is very thick, yet subtle at the same time. This pedal has now replaced the CE-5 on my pedal board, and also doubles as a flange/phase pedal. I'd check out this pedal, it is very flexible, and very cool, and the tone is amazing... no tweaking necessary... just adjust the knob to your liking... Check out the different sounds you can achive with this pedal and see if it suits your needs...
