Hey all, as part of my kind of quot;reestablishingquot; my gibson gothic guitar, I want to know how to re-finish my guitar. there are some spots where the wood is bare, but no dings, just regurlar wear and tear, then there are small scratches inthe wood. Any thoughts on this?
i wont be of much help but i'd sand it off even more in certain areas and go for a real rough look rather than refinish it. ask wattage about his warlock bass project morticia...it's flat black with sand throughs in areas and hot rod style pinstripes on it and it looks sweet!

Go here:

1 Sand with 600 Wet and Dry paper to feather out paint.
2 Wipe down with a tack rag or rubbing alcohal.
3 Wait until dry then mask off with masking tape.
4 Spray on primer/sealer.
5 Having read the can previously use correct thinner to remove overspray.
6 Wait to dry THEN use thin coats of the correct paint, it's a Gothic so any flat/satin black should suit. Not really sure what type of paint Gibson use, so find out!
7 Sand between coats with clean 600 along the grain and wipe down, about 4 coats should do.
8 Wait 24 hours and blend with 0000 wire wool, remove masking tape first and compare with the rest of the finish.
9 Buff with Meguiars Cut and Polish.
Should be close enough, Gibson Gothics are supposed to be rugged so don't be too fussy.
P.S. Use your brain and ask the local hardware store!
