A couple weeks ago I changed the strings on my JV and picked up some Dunlop big stubbies at the recommendation of Zhanglin.
The JV came with Fender 250L 9's, I changed to Fender Super Bullet 10's. Great improvement. Nicer, sweeter tone on the unwound strings at the upper frets. Sounds fuller plugged and very noticeable when unplugged. Before the unplugged sound was so thin. Problem solved. But, I think I need to take it in for a truss rod adjustment. The wound strings buzz from about the 11th fret and higher. With the trem floating the thickers strings really don't feel much thicker or tighter. Even with 5 springs in the trem. Yea for floating trems.
I am beginning to really like the 3.0mm stubby picks. They are much easier for me to hold and comfortable. I haven't really noticed a tone diff because of the pick but perhaps that's because I changed picks and strings at the same time. I test between the old mediums and the stubbies and check.

Has anyone out there ever replace stock Jensen speakers with Weber speakers in their Fender amplifier? What's your experience?
Boy, Jensens are some of the best speakers I've ever heard. Why would you want to switch them out?

Well I decided to put one of my guitar back together and start getting some use out of it. Its going to make a good lapslide guitar I feel, but first it needs to get wired up. It has a 1/4 pounder Tele pup in the neck and its going to have a SD '59(n) pup in the bridge (that the only humbucker that I have thats not being used so its going in there)
I want to wire the pups out of phase with each other the 59' is a single conductor btw.
So how would I wire this up?

I know that 250k are generally used for single coils and 500k for humbuckers. I also know that Epiphone uses 300k pots. Are there any other values that can be used for guitar? Have any of you experimented with them?
Well, i have used a 1megaohm pot in all my guitars, but i found out that a much easier solution is just to remove the connection from the 3rd lug on the pot that goes to ground, and voila, you have a quot;infinite ohmquot; potmeter .
Cool trick Erland-I'll have to remember that one.

I would assume that you would normally use 500K pots for stacked singles like for Strat, tele, etc.
But my question is- what If i use a Dimarzio HS3(stacked single coil) in the bridge of my Strat and and for the neck and middle I want to use real single coils (well... fender noiseless single coils).
do I use 3 500K pots? or 3 250K pots? or maybe even set it up for something more complicated like 1 500K volume pot for the bridge, 1 250K volume shared by neck and middle and the 3rd pot could be a 250K tone pot.

Hello, I just joined the club. I've been playing since the early 70's Old, Huh? Anyway I am about to put a set of 59's in an American Strat Texas Special. Why you ask? I just want to. I have my Duncans and am waiting on the pick guard. Has anyone tried this? If so how did it sound. I mostly play blues rock but am starting to get into heavier stuff, you know, show tunes. Seriosly, I have started to listen to some metal that I like and want to expand my musical horizons. Ya think this guitar config. will do it? Alan C.
Metal and humbuckers go together hand in hand . . . I'm sure that you'll enjoy playing the '59s with your strat. I can personally vouch for the cleans that you'll get from your neck pickup (they're pretty sweet) and I've heard a lot of good about the bridge too. Hope you got the nickel covered 'buckers, because I think that those look awesome in a strat style guitar . . .
Thanks. I got the open coil ones but I'm putting them in a tortoise shell pick guard. I hope it looks good. As long as the tone is there I'll be happy.

Hi,
I've been swapping pickups into a gibson es446, and it's driving me a bit nuts - I know the tone I want is in there, but haven't been lucky so far - here's what I've tried...
Gibson 57 classic - nice clean tones, but very mid heavy and quot;cloudy soundingquot; with dirty sounds, not enough detail on the top, and not enough punch to cut through the mix at the gig

So I am getting ready to install my first pickups - (from seymour duncan..where else?) and I open the package and noticed 2 springs.
I haven't taken the old pickups out yet, but what are the springs for?
Thanks,

Hi guys, It says it has a powerful mid and bass response, but what about the hi end? Does it have a enough hi end, or lots of edginess or bite and can it cut thru the mix well?
With the tapped single coil option do you get a good useable vintage sound, or is it more like a humbucker approximation split? Also does it retain its hi end bite when tapped.
Is the quarter pounder a brighter lead pickup both normal and tapped?

When people describe pickups as glassy, what does this mean!?!?!?! and also, what songs best illustrate a glassy guitar tone?
bump
The Fixx - great strat player with an ultimate quot;glassyquot; sound. Very clean.
