I've got a 1978 les paul with a bound neck and I think she needs a fret job. I've had the guitar 14 years and have never treated the frets. I have the occasional dead note and overall the frets are pretty worn so I think its time.
I want to put stock nickel fretwire back in. What am I expecting as far as cost goes? I think bound necks are more difficult/expensive but I'm not sure how much more. I just want to have an idea on the cost before I start shopping around.
Typically, a bound neck refret will run $250 to $300. It varies a lot based on your location as well, I've heard of people in New York and LA paying considerably more in some cases. Bound necks require the fret tang to be nipped near the fret ends, which takes longer. If you want the binding nubs recreated at the fret ends, it may cost a bit more. The most important thing is to find a good luthier who does this kind of thing on a regular basis. This is one of those times when it's not a good idea to go to the guy with the lowest price, unless you're absolutely sure he's going to do a top-notch job.

Hey dudes, I just posted a new tune on my purevolume site. All it is is drums, some guitars fuzzed out courtesy of the SD Tweak Fuzz and vocals. Sort of garage-rock-y. Actually, very garage rock-y. IT was recorded in my garage! Check it out at I played everything, and it is my first time playing drums on a whole song.
Your songs are always soooo amazing! I really enjoy the music you put out, keep them coming. This particular tune makes me feel really warm and fuzzy, it's a keeper for sure! Seems to bring back good memories. I salute you, sir!
P.S. I moved the tune to www.purevolume.com/gaijinsmash

Anyone mod this guitar with Duncan soapbars? I kind of like the stock pups but was wondering what SD's would sound like in it.
J
I put in Duncan Vintage P-90's and quickly re-installed the stockers!!!!! The Vintage P-90's were wayyyy bright! When I was playing the neck position I thought I was in the bridge it was so bright! I even changed pots to a different value and taht still didnt work!!! I really LOVE the stock 90's!!

I am looking for a Multi FX Unit. Floor of rack unit is fine.
I am mainly going to use the, compression/sustainer, delay, and reverb. Chorus, phasers, falange, ect will be used for weird noises and for making samples.
I will be using mainly to record with.

I really have no need for a flight case, other than the potential trip out to Users Day. I know I can't check my guitar in it's normal case, and I can't carry an electic on in a case (can I?).
This one is a pretty decent deal (it seams). Looking for opinions on whether I can trust this case with my $1400 guitar on a cross country plane ride with a plane change inbetween.

.... before the Diezel Einstein (at $3199) even becomes available so I am not too tempted!!
For the money (about $1200) the ENGL Screamer 50 seems like a hell of a little amp. The only thing I don't like is that all channels share an EQ but I use a clean channel about 10% of the time and for recording I can easily just adjust the EQ so it suites whatever channel I am recording. I am also going to order the ENGL closed back 1X12 with a Vintage 30. That should cut any jam/gig situation I may encounter. I have never tried this amp. I am going only off HC reviews, Marinblues sound clips, and a few other MP3s I found on the net.
Think I need the $175 footswitch?? That is a little high for a footswitch that CAME free with my VHT. The footswitch allows you to direct access all 4 channels (not really channels but different gain levels).

Hello to all.
Does anybody know where I can find parts to build a Fender like cab to match my blackface Prosonic? I'm talking speaker grille cloth, tolex to cover the cab, etc. Preferably within the U.K. but I'd be happy to hear about any U.S. based sites that may offer international shipping.
Also I'd like some general tips on speaker selection. They must be 10's but I don't know which brand to go with. The combo has Celestions in but everything I've read about them seems to suggest that Celestions G10 Vintage speakers are aimed more at hard rock. I'm going for more of a soft, warm woody tone. Would I be better advised going for Jensons?

I have been on a quest to find a bridge humbucker for my Hamer Artist. It came with Seths and I would not give up the neck pickup for anything. However, in the bridge position, I am looking for a litle more grit and quot;dirt under the fingernails.quot;
I have tried the JB, CC and Custom and although I really liked the Custom, I decided that I miss the subtle qualities of vintage style pickups. So then I tried the '59 and did not care for it; and APH1 is too sweet and buttery very much like the Seth to my ears. I finally tried an old favorite PG and it gets me really close to what I am looking for but the trebles can be a little fuzzy under high gain. Can overwinding fatten up pickups a little bit? I am thinking that a 9.5 to 10K PGb might get throatier and less fuzzy in the upper registers.
What do you guys think? Any experience with overwound vintage pickups?

Opinions, experiences, etc?
I've looked at Harmony-Central, but like always, it was a transparent collection of people whose reasons for loving and hating things were spurious at best.
I'm looking to buy a guitar for my girlfriend, a classical violist by trade, and in our first outings to local guitar shops, she has identified the S6 Spruce as the current frontrunner in both feel and sound. I agree with her that it's both comfy and pleasant sounding, but I have a friend who has had nothign but troubles out of her Seagull, so I'm wondering if there are any perpetual complaints about the marque....
