I've been listening to a lot of Steve Vai lately and I'm intrigued by his guitars... Does anyone know how they play and sound?
I'm not a fan of them at all. But then again I'm not a 24 guy and I don't like the very flat fretboard radius.
I'm a fan. Great playability and a pretty huge sound. I really dislike the bridge though...

Atari 2600 original box and a bunch of games

I'll play everything from blues to RHCP and Incubus to Metallica. Will a DS-1 do the job, or should I buy the SD-1 (how would this sound on the clean channel?)? I do also plan to get an EH Big Muff Pi USA (distortion/sustainer)
(blues is not what I play the most, but it's fun to play with that crunchy tone sometimes...)
John Fruisciante (sp?) has a DS-1, I believe... I'm sure if you turned the gain down it could give you some interesting (though not very smooth) sounds.

OK, I'm still Jonesin' for a Shiva, but I know it's way more amp than I need, power-wise, and fear that it might largely be wasted due to volume constraints. So I keep reading and looking for a lower output quot;substitutequot; but with no opportunity to play any other candidates, well it just plain stinks. Throw me a bone on this one guys! Offer me some suggestions based on what you've had opprtunity to audition.
And... I just became aware that at some point, Reinhold made some EL84 based Shiva's, apparently at 15 watts. Has anyone seen or heard one of these - does it have a similar voicing to the current Shivas? I must know!!! A Shiva at 15 watts, can it really be?? Hopefully they suck, otherwise, I got one huge GAS bomb brewing.

Old Style Cool Rails Bridge pup in White - will sell for $45 shipped in the US.
I just paid about $74 for this a month ago. I decided to stick with single coils in my Strat, so I had it taken out. The lead (single insulated wire) is about 7 inches long, with the small wires inside sticking out a little past that. The tech snipped the wires at the solder joints, so I'm sure they're still long enough to be installed in a Strat bridge position. There are wiring instructions and 2 original mounting screws still in the box, but only one spacer...I have no idea what happened to the other one, or if there even was another one. (When it was in my Strat the stock spacers were used.)

hey guys im gettin a new guitar in january with the duncan custom shop evh pickup in the bridge and i was wondering wat to get in the neck for a nice sustaining overdriven tone. i dont want to get another evh cuz thats too much money. i was thinking of the full shred but im not sure how well this cleans up. any reccomendations?
A2pro or maybe a Jazz.
yeah i was thinking about the a2pro. the jazz of course is everyones favorite neck p'up. o and this will be a basswood body btw

Are Trembucker pickups wound with the same gauge wire as their G spaced equivalents? Or do they use 43 gauge on Trembuckers instead of 42?

I have an offer to get a vintage rails bridge pickup, which i need for the middle or neck position. (HSS or HSH setup).
What do you think? Actually i have an SSL-1 pickup (i think so) and i like bright pickups in the middle position. The Bridge version of the Vintage rails is bit darker than the neck/middle version. Any opinions on it?
That might work pretty good. I have a VR in the middle of my Strat, and love it. The difference in DC resistance is only 5.34k vs 4.62k. My VR loses a bit of volume compared to the Cool Rails that flank it. A bridge VR just might be the ticket.
