I tried to post a link yesterday to a picture of the inside of an Air Norton for clairification on that subject. For those of you that were interested here's a link to that picture.

Please note that while the quality of my camera sucks, you can still make out the 4 plastic spacers that create the quot;Air Buckerquot; on the corners of the magnet. A member here stated that as long as the pickup had quot;air gapsquot; that it was a Air Bucker and it didn't need the plastic spacers. I agree with half of the statement that you need the air gaps to create the air bucker, but you need the spacer to create the air gaps. This is in no way a slam on the other member, just clarification for myself and anyone else who may have had a question on this.

I am building a solid body guitar from scratch (thanks to Melvyn His**** and Martin Koch for their terrific books), and I am at the stage of drawing blueprints. I have been all over the SD site, FAQs, and this forum and can find nothing to help me get further along in my designing. I plan on using the Antiquity P-90s with soap-bar covers in both the neck and bridge positions. The salient facts I need are:
- How deep do I need to route the pocket into the face of the guitar? FYI, the guitar will have a carved top of quilted maple, just like a 'Paul. - What is the string spread on each (i.e. how far apart are the pole pieces on each pickup)?
- Screwed in, Glued in, or Hammered in?
The dog-ear style is obvious in terms of mounting, but what about the soap bar style?
I suppose I could just break down and buy the wretched things, but at this early stage, I don't really want to start buying hardware until I need it.

Whats your prefered acoustic tone wood? I knwo msot people won't answer this as this is a mroe electric forum but ya. I liek maple alot, but mahagony comes in close second. Maple just seems to have a better voice to me.
Rosewood back and sides, spruce top.
I'm going to throw a wrench in the gears here and say Koa with a Spruce top.

I was just reading that thread started by Deftgala about what would happen if you pulled out a power amp valve. Very interesting stuff. When the conversation turned to what each volume/gain control actually does I got a little lost. I'm gonna explain the layout of my amp and would really appreciate someone explaining it all to me. I thought I understood but I'm not so sure now.
|| (Cln. chnl. vol.) || (2nd Chnl. Vol.) (2nd Chnl. Gain) || (Master vol.) ||
I hope I've made this clear. I thought the channel volumes pushed the pre-amp valves and the master volume pushed the power-amp valves. There are are two power amps dor the AC current thing. Then one pre-amp for each channel's volume/gain knob and one for the reverb tank.

Hey guys. Yeah yeah, I know, this pickup has been reviewed to death, but why not one more.
Anyways, after having identical setups in both my Gibson Les Pauls, I decided to make my black and chrome Les Paul Studio my quot;hard rock / metalquot; axe.
(In my Les Paul Standard, I have a 59 Neck and a Custom5 Bridge, which, in my opinion, is prehaps THE perfect pickup combo for a Les paul. vintage neck sounds, and a bridge that is loud and full, but not overly quot;modernquot; sounding)

Hi all,
I'm spending about $800 bucks on a new combo amp. I was thinking about something I can play in an apt...
I'm considering a flextone III, a Fender Deluxe reissue, etc. Anyone have any suggestions for me? I play rock and metal.

My Yamaha electric guitar was grand until the input jack popped off. Since then I've SaudereD(SP?) the white and black wires multiple times and am thinking about just getting it professionally done after being tired of having it crack and pop. It's strange because my copper guitar cable works with it used with the amp and my 2 raptor cables don't. I'm assuming the copper cable picks up the weak signal while the silver/chrome cabe ends don't. The raptor cables used to work. Any ideas? What would you guys recommend? I'm running short on the white and black input jack cable thanks to resaudering it so many times, should I take my beat up cheap yamaha strat copy to a tech?

Since the Seth is not wax potted, removing the cover should simply be a matter of unsoldering, right? Once the solder is off the cover/pickup base, the cover should just lift right off with practically no effort at all. Am I correct in my line of thinking?
Its fits pretty snug and the solder can get pretty far in tha pup past the baseplate but thats essentially correct. I used a dremel to cut the solder I couldn't soak up with braid and a gentle nudge from a screw driver did the rest.
Don't try unsoldering. I tried it, and got no where. I gave up because I was afraid of overheating the pickup. Instead, take TheArchitect's suggestion and use a dremel tool.
