How do I create a bar graph where the y-axis have letter values instead of
numbers? I want the x-axis to show student names and the y axis to show
letter grades of a certain test.

And how is Excel to know that A is 25% better than B?
You will need to use numbers for the y-axis but you can add text boxes with
letters to the axis.
best wishes

Hi,

You can build this chart using combination of chart types.
