I have a very large file and need these formats. If I close the file and
reopen I can continue formating for a short while before I get the message
again. Is there anything I can do about this?
Do NOT save the file after you get that message, or you will never retrieve
it again. There is nothing you can do but try selecting groups of cells and
changing the format.

One way out is to use the Format Painter Button. Highlight a block of cells,
hit the Format Painter Button, then click on any cell where you want the same
format. After that try make the formatting uniform for the remaining cells.
