I am going to change the pickups in a Gibson semi-hollow, and the neck pickup will probably be a SD 59. When doing this change I wonder if it will be ok to go for the four counductor option, and to install a mini-toggle so I can split for single coil mode? Someone who has tried the 59 split? If so; is it worth the extra work and the hole that must be drilled?
No! Pls. don't drill a hole for a toggle switch, even if it's just on the pickguard.
You can do coil split with a push-pull pot instead, can't you? Cleaner, non-destructive and reversible!
Yes, you´re right. I forgot about that option. Thanks...
On the neck spot the 59 has a nice decent split tone. It reminds to a fender single but with less low end and thinner tone. It isn't the kind of tone you love but it comes handy sometimes. I have a 59/Jb combo with and split switch for both pickups. I barely use it...
