's APST-1 pickup? Is it the perfect strat bridge pickup?
How would you improve it? What does it need?
All it needs is to be installed in your guitar! Is it the perfect Strat bridge pickup? Yes...if what you're looking for is a fatter, ballsier, stronger tone that'll push your amp into overdrive more easily but still retain the single coil vibe and blend with the middle pickup for those classic M amp; B Strat tones in the #4 switch setting. It's one of my two very favorite Duncan Strat bridge replacement pickups. There's no need to change a thing about it because if I want a slightly brighter, less thick but similar tone that pickup already exists: the Antiquity Texas Hot Custom Bridge pickup. The Antiquity Surfer Custom Bridge would be my #3...and the brightest with the most authentic vintage M amp; B combined tone. Not as much midrange though and more like a super strong 1962 Strat pickup than the TB and TH. Lew
It's really cool pickup. I have it in my strat with APS2 neck and bridge. Sometimes I love them more than Ants Surfer set.

i've decide that perhaps the strat bridge is not really meant to be fat. Although I may want fatter from time to time. The thinner trebly tone I've been getting with the Hot Tex Mex in my strat is pretty nice. But, the TB or TH would have more mids for me and sound much better. I am quite sure of that. flanks Texas Hot that I put in the neck sure did the trick.
Thanks Lew.
And Brisk.
I just test drove mine at practice and the only thing that bugs me is the noise. I've been using a lil demon so it had no hum .But when I feed the Twang Banger the overdrive I get some serious hum.I think I need to study up on the best shielding for my Strat. But yes,it is the best true sc pick up I've heard.

I guess that is probably the case for all higher output SC's, isn't it?
Are Noise gates the answer to that hum?
A fantastic pickup. I replaced the SSL-1 in the bridge of my Legacy, what a difference. A big bridge sound now!
The TB is my current favorite single coil bridge pickup for a strat and it doesn't need anything changed about it..

I knew you would say that. You are so predictable John

Not sure whether to take this as a compliment or an insult?
Consistent is a better word!
i will say nothing for the sake of not being a broken record player

Think positive. It is a compliment. Have no doubts or uncertainties. Consistency is a great thing.
You are one of the best PR guys around for the APST-1. The Twang Banger rocks. You have said so, flank, Lew, Stevebees and lots 'O others.
From all the things I have heard and asked, I began to wonder if it is the perfect strat pickup.
I just thought I would ask.
Have fun guys. You are all great. Always with excellent contributions. I have learned a ton here. Thanks.

I am positive! Positive that the Twangbanger is a great strat bridge pickup...
Surfer Custom Bridge vs. Texas Hot Custom Bridge:
1) What is the difference?
...and...
2) Do they use different magnets?

Surfer uses A5 magnets
TH uses A2
The TH has more mids...
The Surfer has less mids,is chimier in the highs...Both great pickups in the right strat..The surfer is closer to actual vintage sounding more than likely..Lew could answer and verify this with his 63 strat..
I would think the Surfer would have more beef with Alnico 5's -- unless they're aged Alnico 5's...
