from : localhost/what I played the other day at Guitar Center and it blew me away . I've come to the conclusion that Fender just makes some absolutely brilliant guitars (I know, it's not really that new for most people ). I don't necessarily always like the shape or feel of some of them (most of the strat necks pretty much blow in terms of comfort), but wow, there are some amazing guitars out there for the cash.

I played one that sounded beautiful unplugged. I found all 3 pickup positions to be extremely useful plugged into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (played clean). The neck was nice and wide with a pretty decently thick C contour. For $500, I'm not going to lie, I was tempted to buy it on the spot, but I know the family would kill me. If I ever need humbuckers for more higher gain aggressive stuff, I just might go this route. It's cool to find something with so much tone for such a little amount of cash.

Right now I've got my Fender Tele-Sonic w/ Filtertron esque pickups, a Warmoth Tele soon to be with some tele/p90-ish pickups and now I'm looking at a Tele with Fender brand humbuckers... wow...

Welcome to my world....there are worse addictions

My next quot;projectquot; needs to be a Thinline

You need some real guitars for your next project...something that weighs more than 6 lbs....like a LES PAUL!

I'll tell ya Chris...those Wide Range buckers don't really have the bucker tone you might be thinking of...they are pretty bright and have a cool almost chime to them compared to most other buckers. And I have to let you know...your Tele Sonic pickups are nothing like Filtertrons...they are DeArmond quot;Dyna Sonic'squot; they are the same pickups that Gretsch used before the Filtertron...think early George Harrison. The various Tele's with buckers are cool...if you get the one with a quot;Wide Rangequot; bucker in the neck and a Tele lead coil in the bridge thay have soem pretty cool tones.

Actually, Christian, the Tele Sonic came equipped with DeArmond 2ks, but yes, you're correct, they're not really Filtertrons. They do share some qualities like the jangle and presence, but it ends after that.

The Wide Range buckers have to really be different if I actually find myself liking them. I've just come to the conclusion that I have weird taste in things

I've just come to the conclusion that I have weird taste in things Bro, DeArmond 2k's and Dyna Sonics are the same pickup. When Fender bought DeArmond they did not but the name Dyna Sonic (Gretsch already owned the name Dyna Sonic) so Fender guitars with DeArmond pickups and the DeArmond guitars with Single coils had pickups that were copies of Dyna Sonics called DeArmond 2k's but they are clones of Dyna Sonics.

As for ikeing equipment that is a bit left of center...Im riht there with ya! I dig more funky crap than anybody else I know!

when those Tele Deluxes came out, I really wanted one. Pop Staples played one and I thought they looked cool - I don't know about the tone, though.

I also wanted an MGB GT :

Soon....very soon...I'll have something new.

And then you'll whine like you did when you wanted a Splawn.......BEOTCH!!!

Those wide range buckers I don't think have enough precense. Like I think of them a very wooly sounding for a lack of a better term. They just don't cut in a band situation. My dad has an original thinline that I snuck to practice a few times when my guitar was out of order. I just couldn't get through the mix.

my MIM 72 custom's WRHB is a bit wooly, so I modded it for coil tap. Sounds very nice in single coil mode. I've found the original and MIJ ri WRHBs to be more precise sounding.

TheChris, love those telesonics. Too killer.

Thanks Christian, I had no idea Dyna Sonics and the 2ks were one and the same. I guess it is in fact a copy of the early pickups found in Gretschs.
