Have anyone tried the Randall RM4 Preamp? Or any product in the MTS series?Sounds like a good idea to be able to customize your set up with different modules. Currently 14 different voicings available. Ranging from Ultra High Gain to Fender'ish Cleans and (almost) everything in between.

How are their poweramps?

That thing is such a cool idea. Someone posted some stuff on it awhile back - you may want to do a search on this forum.

The only odd thing is, the names of all the gainy ones sound so similar: ultra, ultra lead, modern, recto, brown. Are they really that different? How in the heck would you ever decide? Maybe that's the point: have people buy several different ones just because they offer them.

Definitely a cool idea indeed.

They've got a bucket load of clips here so that you can tell the difference between the different modules:

It's because every one is BASED on different amp.
For example: Recto is ofcourse from the Mesa Rectifiers, so they took that amp and tried to put it's sound in the modulator element thingy the best as possible.
So they took more like Ultra Lead, I thought it was based on some Marshall, and so on...

I have the MTS RM 100 head. I absolutely love the thing. I run the Egnator SL as my main module with another Randall SL , Recto and Black face for cleans (I rotate the modules in the 3 slots). It replaced the mighty Powerball as my main amp. It's that good. I run the head thru two Mode Four cabs. Sonic decimation.

Oh and if you haven't heard already......George Lynch and Bruce Eg. are designing four new modules based off George's tones. I can't wait to get my hands on one.....or more!! P

I love the wicked Marshall tone he had on Under Lock and Key and Back for the Attack. I bet his modules will rule for leads.....

Ultra = Soldano SLO
Ultra Lead = VHT Pittbull Ultra Lead
Modern = Peavey 5150
Recto = Mesa Rectifier
Brown = Plexi Marshall

I may be off here, though

I will definitely check them out as soon as I get a chance. Thanks for the info.

Yeah you're off on at least one man. The Modern sounds nothing like a 5150.....I wish it did......that's OK the Lynch modules should be cool. I tried the Ultra module.......microphonic as heck....

I have always been curious to try one of those out. Sounds like a good idea at least.

One of these sounds like it might be cool to try out

I sold my Powerball after side by siding it with the Randall in band mixes. The PB is a cool amp though........but it didn't cut as good as this amp.....

Sounds like it might be my next one!!!!! Sounds killa!!!!! At least that how I hope it sounds!!!!

Posting late in this thread but if anyone out there is interested in this amp check out There is an MTS forum there and you can find tons of useful information about these amps there. I have an RM100 myself and it kicks ass. Trying this amp out in a music store does it no justice and the sound clips on the Randall site suck. Check out this thread for realistic sound clips on what this amp can do. This guy owns an RM4 running through a VHT power amp and did sound clips for every module including the new George Lynch Grail Tone. Only one I don't think he had was the Ultra XL and the other Lynch modules aren't available yet. Here is the link..... from : localhost/mtsforum.grailtone.com/viewtopic.php?t=317. Check it out!
