I want to replace my duncan custom with a lower output pup in my ibanez
it is a mahogany/maple top RG prestige 3120
this axe had a tone zone stock and that was real good and then i wanted to go a bit clearer and put in a custom
i want the paf tone but a notch hotter in output
i like satch, michael schneker and play the style
I need a clear, clean pup that has the classic paf tone and maybe a little more heat?
my amp is a XXX by peavey so gain is not a issue
the paf pro looks real good and so does the fred?
also this newer virtual hot paf sounds like it may be perfect for what i want?
Hmmm....
I'd personally stay awy from the PAF Pro....has the clarity...and candle alot of signal processing..but's quite quot;modernquot; sounding without much low end.
For Dimarzio, I'd prolly go with the VHPAF based on the clips posted here recently. Heard good things about the Air Classic too.
But I think a 59 or Seth in the Duncan line would be better. Probably the EVH would be best if money wasn't an issue...
Check out David Bray Amps soundclips. Many of the clips are an EVH in a Strat (granted , your woods are different, but). Very nice sounding pup.

Heh...must be a generation gap thing...to me Satch and Vai are newbees! with quot;modernquot; tone...def not quot;classicquot; PAF tone. If you like those Satch/Vai tones, then yeah PAF pro is a good pup...but it's not very PAF-ish

does dimarzio have a model that is a paf pro but has more low end?
the virtual hot paf looks real good on paper since it does the classic tones but with more heat and attitude?
Breeds are supposed to be hotter and fatter PAF Pros without the highs.

OH but i like the high end spike on the prosatch hits that high E note on quot;satch boogiequot; it screams just the way i like it!
Yo ! i have in my Roadstar II in basswood a Jazz neck and a Screaming Demon bridge and they are ultimate shred monsters , everything is there !!
( Use search fonction if you want more description i did in recent posts )
And they are in paf style of ouput , a bit under for the Jazz and a bit over but not much for the Demon .
Definately go with a PAF Pro.
The FRED is an awsome pickup too. Actually I'm using a PAF pro in my Strat and a FRED in my Explorer so these are my main two pickups.
The FRED works well in Mahagony - the warmer tone of the wood and the brighter sound of this pickup kind of even each other out which is a great tone IMO.
The FRED can handle shred real well but so can the PAF pro and the PAF Pro sounds better clean then the FRED but the PP has a mid spike so I can't say I prefer one pickup over the other. the PP's mid spike isn't nearly as bad as the mid spike in the JB though.
bump
Paf pro or virtual hot paf
the demon is a lot like the pro but has more bass
