If I Swap my TSL 60 for a new Single Recto. What would be a fair amount to negoiate?
The skinny - My JCM 2000 TSL 60 watt amp I bought new, on sale, for about $999 tax now goes for $1,399.00 (musician's friend)
The single recto I want New goes for $1199.00.
I know a few of you guys do alot of trading, buying and swapping, and the like. So I'm wondering if you guys can give me a good estimate of what you'd expect from a music store in this instance. I'm asking because I'm looking at having to drive almost 2 hours to the nearest dealer and I what to have a small clue of what to expect
BTW, the Marshall is about 1 1/2 year old to 2 years at most, I'm the only owner, Excellent condition, no scratches, skuffs, or anything.
Ok, they'll probably offer 65-70% of what they're going to sell it for as the trade value. They will probably sell it for about a $999. Therefore, you can expect an offer of around $700 . . . If it were me, I'd ask for eight or probably nine when I walked in. Worst they can do is push you down.
If the normal sales people won't go high enough, talk to the manager . Be polite etc. Beware of the salespeople quot;going to the back to check the pricequot; (they always do that to me) because means they're looking to see how little they can get away with offering . . . so ask to see the manager anyway.
Also, make sure you only pay any sales taxo n the difference, not the full cost on the new amp . . .
That's how I would do it . . . but that's just me . . .
