Hi everybody.
I recently purchased a CS Lil Pearly Gates (thanks Theodie!) that sounds great at the bridge of my 77 ash strat. The thing is, I've never had a 'bucker in any of my strats (EMG SA's don't count ), so I don't know what to do for neck and mid pickups.
I have a 62 RI loaded something very similar to APS-1's, and while I love that tone, I want something a bit tighter and more in-your-face to match better with the 'bucker.
The strat in question has a maple neck and a vintage trem. I play through a Boss GT-8 preamp into a Mesa 50:50 power section and a pair of 2x12 cabs.
Would SSL-1's be OK? How about Surfers? Y'all think I might need something hotter than that ?
How 'bout a pair of Hot Stacks?
Please feel free to suggest any singles, noiseless or otherwise. Thanks in advance.
Bizzz-ump!
I think Duckbuckers or Vintage rails will be the way to go bro!!!
I'd go with the Surfers myself. But I've wired a few guitars with SSL-1 neck and middle and a JB JR. and liked the results very much. The SSL-1's and your CS LIL PG should be nice. That would be a ceramic pickup? The JB JR is a ceramic pickup, even though the full size version is alnico 5...so I'm guessing your LIL PG would be ceraimic too, even though the full size is an alnico 2 humbucker. Do you know? Just curious. Thanks, Lew
Thanks for the responses, gentlemen.
Lew, I was told that mine is basically a Lil' 59 with an alnico II mag. I measured it on my multimeter and it weighs in at ~11.3k. It sounds great, BTW.
Curiously enough, it sounds darker in my 62 RI (basswood body) than the PG in my Lester.
The CS lil PG is an Alnico II magnet!! I could tell its obvisouly not a ceramic by looking at the magnet!!!
