Do the 7-string Duncans sound exactly the same and have the exact same specs as the 6-string versions? I've got an SH-5 Custom 7 in my Schecter and love it. Thinking about a regular 6-string Custom for my Strat. Would sound and output level be the same?I know DiMarzio changed the output, DC resistance and tone guide a little for their 7s compared to their 6s. I'm not sure why they did that, but just wondering if Duncan did the same or not.

They're probably pretty close, but even so I've been wondering what effect the different shape to the coils would have on tone. If the DC resistance is the same, meaning the same overall length of coil wire, then the coil itself would be a bit thinner because it would be the same amount of wire spread over a bigger area.

This would cause it to sound a little brighter because the narrower coil would pick up a bit less bass and low-mid. I'm just spit-balling here, but it's quite possible that they may have wound it with a few extra turns to make up for this effect.

My experience with the Custom-7 was very positive, I didn ́t notice more than a nuance of difference, if any, to my normal TB-5s

Life boring on the JCF again?? You ́re slowly rising over here, you may end up being one of those pesky Toneologists if you keep this up :toast:

Thanks, Tim! JCF is cool, just gotta venture out to other boards once in awhile, though. LOL
