Im sure that you all have noticed that both the guys from good charlotte have sig guitars. one of them has a PRS, and one has a Music Man. Im not really all that shocked that they have sig guitars, because the guitarists most likely to buy a guitar with someone else's name on it are the beginners that are into bands like good charlotte. now, the thing that concerns me is the price. i know the Music Man guitar is 1000$, and im sure the PRS isnt cheap. its the same issue as the Gibson Tom Delonge model. the players interested in guitars like that arent going to be able to spend so much money on a guitar. wouldnt you think that prs, music man and gibson would all have much better success if they made cheaper models of those guitars for beginners? Fender had that concept figured out and it seemed to do pretty well. what are your thoughts?

I'm not sure what the price is on the PRS, but I know the GC sig. model is part of the SE line which is typically not too expensive.

I think Fender struck gold with the Fender quot;Rollin' Thunderquot; DeLonge strat Right price and accessibility means good sales.

Stuff like the Gibson sig. are doomed to failure because Gibson enthusiasts with the type of money to afford purchasing one aren't interested in Blink 182 and the younger kids who really want one can never afford to buy one. They should have just released his sig. model as a part of Epiphone and called it a day.

The Musicman is accually pretty cool, I'm all about a hardtail with a single bridge 'bucker. It is alder too if I remember correctly (very few EBs are), maple neck- right up my alley. The only problem, is that I cannot stand that band's music or that dudes posing so I would NEVER buy it. Nothing like marketing totally backfiring on you!

i agree big black...i like the music man GC sig even that puke green color looks kinda cool in person and it plays great...but since it is a sig guitar for a band i hate, i don't think i could buy one.

Though the US-made one is kinda pricey, there's an OLP version of the Benji Madden sig that has a street price of $229.

The Billy Martin PRS SE has a street price of about $500.

I think I heard that they're listing for around $650, which is pretty reasonable and puts it within range of the kids that'd actually want to buy one.

And in all honesty, I'd rock the Good Charlotte PRS if it didn't have the green bat inlay....(you can always paint over the name, but you can't cover up that bat)
i never said that they were bad guitars. im sure they are good axes, otherwise those guys wouldnt play um, its just most kids wanting to buy a guitar with their names on it probably wouldnt even fork over 650$ for their first guitar. i know i didnt.

Once you grasp the concept that signature model guitars are not doled out on the basis of technical achievement but are given out on the merit of how many more units marketing thinks they can move with that name on them then it will all become clear.

But hey....anyone playing a Gibson Les Paul is technically playing a Signature model, aren't they...

Yep, and there are an awful lot of them about too....

I've wondered who the hell Billy Martin was when I saw one of those. The only Billy Martin I knew of coached the Yankees...and I knew it wasn't his dead ass.

i think both guitars are relatively affordable and made by reputable companies. If i had to choose i'd go with the music man, i just cant stand those inlays on that prs.i look past the whole signature artist gimmic. But if tis a good gutars then you just have to suck up your pride, and yes you can remove the name plate on the back or whatever.
