Everything I've heard about the pickup booster has been positive. I just wish Duncan would provide some sound clips of it especially with single coils. I think alot of people would like to hear some sounds of the resonant switch plus the overall sound of the booster. Just wishin.
Thanks,

There are always debates on featuring MP3 clips on the internet. I managed to convice Evan and the crew to put the MP3 files up on the actual pickups about 2 years or so ago. Most people's PC speakers do not do justice to comparing different pickup models. But, it seems to have worked better than it has hurt.
Im just not sure how you'd demo a pickup booster since it is very dependent upon amp and guitar and pickup choice. I'd be interested in how to show off a pickup booster in an MP3. I'm facing a similar dilema of my own with this issue.
I'm even thinking of not making clips of the amps that I am selling to put on my companies website. A good studio artist and a good studio engineer could make a piece of crap sound great through the wonders of electronics. There are so many factors that can change. I'm afraid I'll get more potential returns on amps that don't sound quot;exactlyquot; like the clip on my site. Somebody will have a Tele that wants the amp to sound like a clip recorded witha Les Paul or soemthing. I'm sure that I'll have to get clips going at some point, but I'm still kinda hesitant.

Just use an sm57 into an adat or similar with no effects. Post up the exact signal path used for recording and I don't think anyone would accuse you of trickery.
Also, try and do strat, tele and LP clip and use a hot player. that'll sell you some amps...
Well, since it's supposed to be transparent, just turn the volume knob on your speakers up and there you go
Since when is transparent, actually transparent.

Its very close to transparent, but it does add a touch of quot;characterquot; of its own. It may simply be the result of feeding the amp a stronger signal, but its not quite the same as just turning up the volume.
I can try and post a clip, but it would be better if someone who was a better git-picker did one.
I think the real value of the pickup clips is hearing the DIFFERENCE between one clip and the next, not really in evaluating the pleasantness of the individual clip's sound. If I'm looking to thicken an overly bright guitar, I'll go looking for pickups of the right sorts that sound thickler than other, similar pickups, etc. The utility comes entirely from the fact that, other than the pickup swaps, everything else in the recording chain is the same.
That seems like a model that could fairly easily be applied to the pikckup booster. You play the lick dry, you play it again boosted...
But for the amps that Scott mentioned...that'd be tough. The best you could do would be to play the same lick through the saem guitar on a series of different amps with identical knob settings. But different amps often have very different controls...and a lot of the utility of any given amp is its ability to be tweaked to different settings...so I can't see how clips could help me personally choose an amp.
I did a little demo a while back. I used a tele with a Duncan BG-1400 in the bridge. The pickup is a stacked single coil. I sorta played the same thing 6 times: 3 times without boost but with different tone settings, then 3 times with boost and different tone settings. The clean boost is very clean, but it's hard to display a clean boost on a recording, so I set the boost to push the front end of the amp and distort.
SD Booster Pedal with Tele
These were recorded without any added effects but I agree with Scott, different guitar/amp setups will supply various results.
I think clips of anything over the web/computer speakers is just weak. At BEST you'll get relative differences - if you can tell that.
