What's the best Fender Telecaster in terms of tone (not from the pickups, I mean the natural tone) and playability that has a satin finished neck and either the standard two single coils or single coil bridge and humbucker neck?

Satin finished neck is a must!

Mine!
Actually, the Am. Standards are pretty good these days, but you need to shop around for one. Example:

When I was shopping for my Am. Standard Strat that I traded for my tele, I played 4 or 5 Am. Standards....maple neck, same year, maybe a different finish color was the only thing you could say seperated them. Yet, they were all TOTALLY different guitars. Especially with big-namers, guitars vary SO much.

So basically, sit down with an American Standard or American Deluxe. Good guitars, especially if you can snag one used for a good deal.

The Best Fender Tele is this one...Nice Zerb.

not that damn Jackson again lol...still not doing it for me.also, mine is the best tele lol.however this is a favorite of mine too...not even a fender!!

Get a MIJ 69 RI Thinline and sand down the back of the neck with 0000 steel wool.

Well, I'm partial to my Bastardcaster. It's got the best of all worlds.

I just bought my first Fender tele... Had a parts tele before but i bought a cheap Mexican Standard tele for 300Canadian with some nice upgraded parts on it.... For a cheap tele it rocks!

this
I like the Custom 72 myself.

I love my two :Chris, you have some of the best gear in the world. There needs to be a CT/NY/MA user group day so I can see some of those things in person!

Chris, what style guard is that? I might eventually need one of those.

i really, really dig the American Deluxes alot...it may be my next guitar!?
hey the chris, where did you find a telesonic?! i want one of those so bad....its a shame they stopped producing them.

Tell ya what, those Highway 1 Tele's are really nice. The body and neck are from the US factory and the electronic parts and hardware are from the Mexican factory. They don't have a thick Poly finish on them either. Really really nice. I played a sunburst one a few weeks ago and it felt great. Resonated really well and had a good unplugged sound. You could hear it and feel it. Check 'em out. For the they're great.

I've wondered ... wouldn't the Highway's sound better since they breathe so much more? Maybe I should get a highway, and upgrade all the hardware and pickups...That would be badas...agreed?
