Guys I need help deciding on a guitar I'll probably get next summer. I play mostly rock, punk, and metal. The type of music I play is like Green Day, Weezer, Mxpx, Asian Kung fu Generation, if you guys heard that Jrock band, and shred metal. I trying to decide between the faded Les Paul Double cutaway with dual p90s and Ibanez Pgm model. I have fender strat you can see in my signature, that guitar can handle all those genres I can play most of others too. I don't if I should get the Double cutaway for pure rock tones of a Les Paul and p90s or get the PGM that is perfect for shredding and doing all the genres.

I personally do not like either guitar. But of the two, I'd go for the Gibson.

Beware, i think the gibson has p-100s, which are a sorry excuse for a pickup. You can always replace those with real p-90s though.

I'd go for the gibson. I love p90 guitars, and that looks like a nice one. You'll get plenty of the classic gibson mahogany balls to contrast with your strat.

The ibanez is the kind of guitar you buy if you really want to play fast, intricate shred/fusion guitar, not the kind of guitar you buy if tone and rhythm are a primary consideration.

I just checked the website and it says p90s are in it. I actually think the PGM would work great for rhythm, I've seen Paul Gilbert play on his latest dvd quot;Space Ship Onequot; and the rhythm tones sound nice.

Go with a Hamer Studio instead of a doublecut LP...same look, better quality, better price.

Gibson Les Paul DC with mahogany body, set neck and nasty good P-90s?hmmmmmmm Save your money and get the Double Cut Special with the P90's. It will blow away both! After you buy this guitar It would be in your best interest to put a set of Antiquity P90's in it. They are really killer sounding PUPS!

I've voted for the PGM, I always go for playability first and prefer thin necks which makes the only choice out of the two, the Ibanez. I just find Gibson's hard work to play (I have owned both an LP and an SG.......sold both within 5 weeks!!).

Okay I checked the stats on the neck of pgm and the width on last fret is about .16quot; bigger than a strat copy I have. The neck thickness is about /- .1quot;-.4quot; within the thickness at all the places on the neck. It looks like the pgm is C shape neck. Do you guys know what kind of necks each have? I have strat copy I use for practicing I'll try seeing how comfortable it is for me. That strat copy has a thinner neck compared to my fender strat. If I'm comfortable with a strat neck would a gibson neck feel similar for me?

Can you guys know of any double cutaway w/p90 guitarists? That might help sway me more to the les paul. I know that Billy Joe of Green Day uses p90 gibsons know and his tone is thick and pretty good now.

In general, I can shift from neck profile to neck profile without much hassle. the problem comes when a neckshape is really extreme in one direction or another. Unless newer PGM models have beefed up considerably, that ibanez has a popsicle stick for a neck.

Could you tell me the difference between this guitar and the double cut special? I know the paint job is the first thing. What else is different about? I don't want to spend over $1300. For something more higher end I'm thinking maybe something like this from : localhost/cgi.ebay.com/GIBSON-LES-PAUL-...QQcmdZViewItem It looks really nice and the 24 frets might make it a good shredding guitar too. I was thinking about maybe getting a les paul goldtop with p90s too.

Unless you go high dollar and get one of the pricey PGM models, you're not going to get a decent guitar. The cheaper MIK Paul Gilbert models are notoriously shoddy, and will just be a waste of money. Of those two I'd go with the Gibson.

I strongly believe in buying what you want without worrying about what big names play/don't play it. If you can, actually go play one of the guitars at a store and form your OWN opinion.
