Can anyone tell me what the best pickups would be for a Strat? I'm in the middle of quot;updatingquot; my Fender Squier Standard Strat and I don't know exactly what type of pickup I should look into. I want a certain quot;soundquot; in the vein of Jimi Hendrix, but I DON'T want quot;stackedquot; single coils, and I would prefer a reverse wound pattern for all three positions. I was told the APS series from SD was my best bet, but I also want to have an quot;originalquot; tone. Can anyone help???

Hendrix and SRV used alnico 5 pickups. There's two great Duncan sets for Hendrix and SRV tone I would recommend:
1. Duncan California 50's...a calibrated set of SSL-1's with a RW/RP middle.
2. Duncan Antiquity Surfers with RW/RP middle and the Surfer Custom bridge pickup.
Hendrix and SRV didn't use alnico 2 pickups, but if you'd like to try the smoother, sweeter, less ice picky tone of alnico 2 then try:
1. Duncan Antiquity Texas Hots with RW/RP middle and the Texas Hot Custom bridge pickup.
2. Duncan APS-1 or APS-2 and a Twangbanger.
Welcome to the forum! is going to have new noiseless strat pickups soon. Here's a link with a little info, I'm not sure when they'll be released.

Thank You guys!....I did a little looking into your recommendations, and you were RIGHT!....the Antiquity Texas Hot's are slammin' and the Antiquity Surfer 50's also groove, but by far and hands down, to date, since I've pivked them up and installed them in my Standard quot;Leftyquot; Strat...nothing....(And I do mena NOTHING!!) can compare to the recommended set-up from Lew.....the APS's kick A$$ and they're smooth as silk and as fat, thick, and quot;roundquot; as a double Angus burger from burger King!....dude!...Where'd you get your P.U. knowledge?...I'm assuming you've been doing this for years?......either way, I thank you from the bottom of my Tech21 trademark 120 combo....wit these new pickups, I actually think I can nail that elusive quot;Hendrix-S.R.V.-B.B. King-Metallicaquot; sound I've been hearing in my dreams!! THANX!!!!!Commander LaForge
Lew is definitely quot; The Manquot; in this area.
