Thanks for the article. I'd love to have a Hamer Standard. If you get a chance check out that guy Andy Powell in Wishbone Ash. Their most popular album was Argus back in the early 70's. That's a good one to start with. They were a great dual lead guitar band credited with inspiring bands like Thin Lizzy.

after looking at the tour site...reading this article...and hearing the comments from members on this board...i think i'm sold! i'm gonna go play a Monaco Elite after work today and see what they play like...i may put one on layaway in a couple of months if it's as good as i suspect it will be...maybe play it through the Rivera Fandango amp that i like as well....yummmmm!!!!

Surprisingly, he's still going strong, Powell is the only original member, but they're touring and putting out albums.

I'm absolutely convinced that Hamer makes the finest guitars available anywhere on the planet. They are so meticulous from start to finish, and it really shows in the final product. From the hand-fitted oversized dovetail neck joint (40% bigger than Gibson's design) to the custom tapered pots to the 14 coats of hand-buffed lacquer, Hamer's quality is pretty much unrivaled in my opinion. The best part is that if you're buying new, you have lots of custom options available to you when you order. Since every guitar is pretty much a custom creation, you have a lot of different things you can choose from without paying typical custom shop prices. And if you like to buy used, Hamers are an absolute steal on the used market. Twice the quality and half the price of a Gibson. If you're not familiar with them, check out the tour on the Hamer web site, it shows all the steps that go into completing one guitar.
