I recently installed an Evolution 2 in my guitar and am very happy with it, but it leaves me with a small problem. I have a Little 59 in the neck and was never very happy with tonewise with distortion (too muddy, needed brightness articulation) and it didn't match that well with my old bridge pickup (Air Zone). With the Evo now, it seems even more underpowered, and still really muddy. So my question is what single-coil sized HB fills i well for an Evolution Neck/PAF Pro? I'm thinking maybe a rail pickup (dropout while bending was annoying with the Little 59) and don't know what to choose. At my local store they recommended the Dimarzio Pro Track or Chopper, but I wouldn't mind some other input.

Oh yeah, the guitar is a Jackson HSS mahogany superstrat with maple top and neck, and a floyd. Many thanks in advance for any advice...

The Chopper is going to be brighter amp; cleaner than the Pro Track and Lil 59.

I would say a JB jr neck model. It sounds great in neck and middle positions.

Thanks for the advice so far, any more would be appreciated. Regarding the Chopper, does it have a single-coil sound or a humbucker type of sound? (I'm having trouble telling from the descriptions)

The JB Jr seems really neat, but the dropout with bends on small pole pieces was quite irritating for me, too bad it's not a rail pickup...

i asked that same question to the Dimarzio people via email, and they told me to get the Fast Track 1 both for the middle and the neck. Along with the Cruiser, its the closest SC sound in a rail pickup as youre ever gonna get (according to them) and although the Evo could over power the Cruiser, its best to try the Fast Track 1's.

the Chopper i have no experience with... but for your own judgement, they do have sound samples of both the Chopper and the Fast Track 1 at the Dimarzio website.
