I have a question about what type of electric pickup would work in my acoustic resonator. I have already installed my choice of acoustic pickup but I need to install a something like a humbucker in the neck position. The problem is there is a max clearance to the strings of about .625 which isn't much room and I would prefer to surface mount the pickup rather than route out the body.
My style is similar to Eric Sardinas so I need something pretty hot. Is there any type that you could recommend for this application?
Thanks!

Eric has a very agressive style. How are you going to battle the feedback? I just saw him perform, and I was amazed at how loud and agressive his tone was....... With no feedback. I know this is not answering your question, but from what I saw his PUPS were mounted in the guitar not surface mounted. IMO any surface mount is going to give you some feedback problems, and more than likley due to the limited clearance you have you may not be able to get the correct type of PUP in that limited space. A johnny Smith PUP may fit, but I don't think that is going to be hot enough for what you want. I would consider the Pearly Gates, but this will have to be routed to fit. I think tahat woud be a good PUP choice for that sound. Maybe a Antiquity P90.

Yep, Eric is a real hotdog! He's got that Washburn but when I played it, it wasn't as touchy as you think. Through his rig, it's pretty mild actually. Honestly, he's getting more out of the pizos than the actual PUPs. Do love that boy's sound! I tend to run much hotter picks than he does and an overdrive pedal so I have to watch out for feedback by plugging up the holes. If you look at Taz on my site, it has no holes at all and the feedback is very controllable.
